LucasArts revealed its intentions of creating a sequel to its critically acclaimed adventure game Full Throttle at last year's E3, and now the game will be on display at E3 2003. The original Full Throttle, which was created by Tim Schafer, designer of other LucasArts adventure games like Day of the Tentacle and Grim Fandango, followed a dry-witted, lantern-jawed biker named Ben as he tried to retrieve his stolen bike and uncover a fiendish plot to take over Corely motors, the makers of the world's best motorcycles. The game was highlighted by engaging, well-realized characters, a razor-sharp sense of humor, and a unique art style that felt like one part Mad Max and one part Easy Rider, with a surreal version of the American Southwest as the backdrop.

Full Throttle: Hell on Wheels continues Ben's story as he gets caught up in another fiendish plot, this one revolving around the destruction of a small town. Ben's gang, The Polecats, will play a more pronounced role in the game, backing you up as you face off against The Hound Dogs, a rival gang. You'll also meet other characters from the original Full Throttle, like Father Torque and Maureen Corely, as well as a number of new characters.

While the original Full Throttle was a pure adventure game, focusing on talking to other characters and solving puzzles, Hell on Wheels promises to include more action elements. The game will feature hand-to-hand combat--in which you'll be able to use environmental objects like chairs and bottles in addition to your dukes--along with some on-the-road combat while you're on your Corely motorcycle. The game won't forsake its adventure game roots entirely, though, and should still feature a fair amount of puzzle solving as well. Full Throttle: Hell on Wheels is currently scheduled to ship in Q4 2003 for the PC, PlayStation 2, and Xbox.
