If Ubisoft's From Dust didn't already have a god complex, it assuredly will now. The French game company today said the title enjoyed the strongest launch day sales of any Xbox Live Arcade entry in the publisher's history.

Ubisoft did not specifically name day-one sales of From Dust on XBLA, but did say the strategy game beat out its previous best start by a large margin of 45 percent. The publisher did not name the game From Dust unseated for the top spot, but other big Ubisoft XBLA games include Beyond Good & Evil HD, Prince of Persia Classic, Scott Pilgrim vs. The World: The Game, and Outland.

Ubisoft also noted that it believes the PC version of From Dust, which was delayed from July 27 to August 17, is on pace to perform well. The publisher said preorders for the PC iteration are "tracking well." A PlayStation 3 version of From Dust is slated to arrive "soon."

As for the game, From Dust casts players as an environment-manipulating all-powerful force known as The Breath. By transporting land, water, vegetation, and lava around tropical environs, players can open up new pathways for villagers and protect them from earthquakes and other calamities. The various threats in the game can also be turned to the player's advantage; for example, a well-placed tsunami could extinguish wildfires rather than sweep away villages.
