Midway Sports Asylum has today announced that the PlayStation 2 version of Freestyle MetalX has shipped to stores across North America. The game, which is also scheduled for release on the Xbox and GameCube, is a motocross racer in which players can explore expansive environments and perform insane tricks.

"Freestyle MetalX brings the extraordinary world of freestyle motocross to the gamer, letting players pull off amazing stunts while riding wherever they want in an entirely free-roaming game environment," said Helene Sheeler, vice president of marketing, Midway. "For the first time in a sports game players can ride from one level to the next without experiencing load times."

Freestyle MetalX features a total of eight environments, and it's possible to play the game as any one of 16 different riders. The music in the game comes courtesy of the likes of Motley Crue, Megadeth, Motorhead, and Twisted Sister. For more information on Freestyle MetalX, check out our previous coverage of the game.
