Microsoft has announced the January 2017 Games With Gold lineup, revealing the first freebies of the New Year. Starting on January 1, World of Van Helsing: Deathtrap will be offered for the low, low price of free on Xbox One. Also that day, Double Fine's The Cave will become available at no cost for Xbox 360.

Then on January 16, Killer Instinct Season 2 will go free, with Rayman Origins dropping down to zero dollars and zero cents for Xbox 360. Note that the Xbox 360 Games With Gold games also play on Xbox One via backwards compatibility. You can see the complete Games With Gold lineup for January 2017 and all the dates at the bottom of this post.

While you wait for January's Games With Gold titles to enter the program, be sure to grab December's freebies before they return to their normal prices.

It's going to be a big week for Xbox Live, as Microsoft is rolling out what it calls the biggest-ever sale this week to count down to 2017. There will be more than 350 deals in all, across games and entertainment. The promo starts on December 22--check back soon to see a roundup of the offers.

  • Deathtrap: World of Van Helsing (January 1-31)
  • Killer Instinct Season 2 (January 16-February 15)
  • Outlast (December 16-January 15)

Xbox 360:

  • The Cave (January 1-15)
  • Rayman Origins (January 16-31)
