Now Playing: Free Xbox One Games With Gold For November 2018 Revealed

As October draws to a close, Microsoft has announced the free Games with Gold for November 2018. These games will be available to download at no cost for Xbox One and Xbox 360 owners with a subscription to Xbox Live Gold. The titles in question are the Xbox One games Battlefield 1 and Race the Sun, as well as the backwards-compatible Xbox 360 games Assassin's Creed and Dante's Inferno. That's $85 worth of games--not bad.

November's headliner is Battlefield 1, a 2016 game that brings players back to the first World War. Its campaign is a series of single-player missions that tell stories across numerous real-world battles and locations. As is traditional for the franchise, the multiplayer mode is mostly composed of sprawling maps, with players battling using era-appropriate weapons and vehicles. Battlefield 1 will be free the whole month of November. And today's the last day, but you can get all of the multiplayer DLC by grabbing the Premium Pass for free.

Race the Sun--free November 15-December 16--is a much simpler game, but it's likely to get you in the "just one more try" mindset. In it, you pilot a futuristic plane that hurtles ever forward as the sun sets in the distance. Your job is to avoid the many obstacles in your way and get as many speed boosts as possible. Each run ends either when you crash or the sun sets.

You'll be able to see how far Assassin's Creed has come over its 11-year history if you download the first installment between November 1-15. Finally, Dante's Inferno plays a lot like the older God of War games, and it has you descend into hell to rescue your beloved Beatrice from the devil. It's available for free November 16-30.

If you hurry, you still have time to download October's Games with Gold if you haven't done so already. Xbox One owners can grab Overcooked and the Xbox 360 game Hitman: Blood Money. The action-RPG Victor Vran is also available until November 15.

  • Race the Sun (November 16-December 15)

Yawn... another month that reminds me I need to cancel my PS Plus and XBox Gold sub. These are good games, just games that most people will have already played by now. Would prefer a bit more focus on getting us titles we haven't been exposed to, like what PS Plus used to do.

Daunte Inferno is A W E S O M E~!!

I waited years for it to be BC & played it right away via the original disc. ;)

~I guess it's similar to God of War w/ upgrades & weapons & special unlockable moves etc.

and the lore of 9 circles of Hell is/was cool..

As far as Battlefield 1= meh!

atleast it's a AAA game and I feel like it's valuabe even though I wlked away from Battlefield after BF4 release fiasco..

*Ass Creed-1 < whatevs. i'll never replay it...

I would replay AssCreed2 though but I still own ALL my 360 physical discs and have the GOTY edition(I think)

but that's the thing bout digital is it's a sign to replay old clasics since it's ooutta our control what games are added...

this is a worthy month & ive no complaints...even though I wont play 1 single one of them...

it's worth it if more people get to try Daunte Inferno..

Another AssCreed game for Gold, what else is new...

@boardsport311: You're right!! How dare they throw another excellent game from the past at us for free!! What do they think we are, idiots??? We're not falling for that!! Do they think this will give people who never played it the chance to experience it for the first time, and those of us who loved it another chance to enjoy it???

It's time to down tools comrades! STRIKE!!!

@mpl911: This is literally the 10th, yes 10th AssCreed game they’ve included with Gold. All I’m saying is I’d like them to mix it up a little, give us more variety. If you like AssCreed games so much you’ve played all 10 with Gold good on you I guess.

@mpl911: Excellent is italicized to emphasize sarcasm? Or... ? SMH, it's a good tech demo, that's about it.

@djwood84: I disagree. I remember the buzz that was around it when AC1 was first released...it was by far the best looking game out there by a mile and offered something very different (parkour and stealth) in a different setting / era to every other game.

Plus, 81% critics' score on Metacritic. There's no way to prove it, of course, by I'd imagine an awful lot of people will d/l and play it again, as it's free.

These games are not free. We are paying for the service. You should consider changing the title of this monthly topic. Do you say the new Netflix movies/shows each month are free? I hope not. You are providing 'free' marketing to Microsoft by repeating their rhetoric that games are 'free'.

Avatar image for gatsbythepig

@jbfitz: You are absolutely correct and I completely agree. Gamespot employees really need to start clearly delivering proper information. Here's a thumbs up.

Avatar image for djwood84

@jbfitz: Yeah, stop pointing out the truth, it really annoys the gaming community. I'm so busy preordering every game that comes out in 2019 I don't have time to think about deceptive marketing or predetory business practices.

@jbfitz: Fool.

Avatar image for gatsbythepig

@mpl911: Why are you so offended?

Avatar image for mpl911
mpl911

@gatsbythepig: I just find it so pathetic that when being offered free games there's always someone who wants to come on and moan and whine about the games (in some way) not actually being free. And comparing it to Netflix, a service that solely exists to provide people with streamable tv and films, is like comparing apples to bananas.

The fact is that Xbox Live! was initially offered to provide people with a way to play demos (back when they were a thing), and play MP. Later the free games were added....as an additional service but the price didn't increase...so it's a free service.

Crying about it every single month is just pointless, childish, and repetitive.

Avatar image for gatsbythepig

@mpl911: Remember, any previous contract with MS has no bearing on the current subscription. The service agreement and TOS is not retroactive. If we based our understanding on what is free by how much things used to cost, or how many things were included, we'd have poor comprehension of present sales and contracts.

When you cry about other people's comments every month, are you being pointless, childish and repetitive?

@jbfitz: get... over... it...

Seriously, someone posts this every time they announce the next month’s games. Nobody friggin cares. Stop being anal.

I liked the first AC a lot but not sure how it holds up now. Odyssey seems like a good game so far (only 3 hours in) but I’m still not loving the direction this franchise veered off in

Information is where Gamespot completely falls short.

Both BF1 and Assassins Creed are also Xbox One X enhanced for people that may have just gotten an X.

Can't believe I still haven't touched BF1, I'm usually very much on top of the big AAA games but haven't played it yet. Guess I can now!

Never did play Dante's Inferno. Going to have to give that a try. I played very little of BF1. Maybe not having to get off my butt to pop in the disc will inspire me to give it another go. Hopefully nobody was insulted by this comment.....

@bdrtfm: I’m insulted... I have to get off my butt to turn on the tv...

Avatar image for Barighm

@bdrtfm: Only in this era is that a reasonable concern.

Avatar image for bdrtfm
BDRTFM

@Barighm: It really is. I made a comment yesterday about how the PS Classic audience will likely be people like me since I was the average age of gamers when it came out in '94 so guys like me now in our 50's would be buying them for the nostalgia. People had a fit. A 21-year-old accused me of saying I have a problem with people his age playing it, something I never even alluded to let alone said. Then a 38-year-old freaked out on me because I said 35 is the average age of gamers and he somehow thought I meant 50 is the average age of gamers. He was really, really pizzed off. Commenting on here is like playing goalie in a dart game. Disagree with me, sure. But don't get angry and call me stupid because of an opinion.

Avatar image for mpl911

@bdrtfm: Haha. The guy got pissed off with you because he thought you meant a different age? What?? That's excellent!

People are definitely looking for stuff to get pissed off about nowadays. You do almost need to append every statement with "I apologise to anyone to whom I've caused offence". It's pretty pathetic. I'm of a certain age too - *cough*50*cough* and it makes me laugh to see how easily offended people are. Wait 'til you get out in the real world kids - you'll love it!!

I apologise to anyone to whom I've caused offence. Obviously.

@bdrtfm: I’m buying the Playstation Classic to go alongside my other regular PlayStations (One of which I got for my fourth birthday when it first came out), the others I just acquired through people giving them to me instead of throwing them out (I now own four, plus my girlfriend has one) 😜

Avatar image for gamerboy100

@bdrtfm: I'm a 28-year-old, and I honestly don't see anything wrong with what you said. I started playing video games when I was five, and Playstation was one of my first systems.

@bdrtfm: Not gonna flip out on you lol, so no worries, but you can't deny that stupidity and ignorance isn't an issue right now.

I bet the first Assassin's Creed is really hard to go back to.

Avatar image for gamerboy100

@thedarklinglord: I can still handle it just fine, except for the unskippable cutscenes.

Avatar image for Barighm
Barighm

@thedarklinglord: Well, yeah, it actually required effort to set up and execute those assassinations. I wasn't particularly fond of the gameplay, but it was unique and memorable. And the story at that point in the franchise was fascinating. It and the second game are still classics as far as I'm concerned. The new ones? Blah, although I have to credit Black Flag for the ship battles.

Avatar image for thedarklinglord
thedarklinglord

@Barighm: Exactly. It's practically a completely different game from the modern ones. (Actually, that's kind of been Ubisoft's MO, simplifying and streamlining their franchises to make them easier, with fewer consequences for mistakes.) The assassinations were actually a big deal, requiring some thought and planning, and you had to execute them damn near flawlessly. Even the climbing was a more involved process, rather than simply holding a button and pushing up. I imagine some people - anyone who's only played the newer games - will find it as frustrating as, say, those early Splinter Cell games.

Looks like a good month. Too bad the DLC for Dante's Inferno is no longer available.

Avatar image for deviltaz35

@gamerboy100: You will still receive it if you had it in your 360 list already though. It's possible people forgot they owned it. I still have it on Disc but a digital copy is always welcome.

Avatar image for gamerboy100

@deviltaz35: That doesn't do me any good. I don't own the DLC because I never owned the game. The game looks good, but I only have so much money for so many games.
