Now Playing: Sea Of Thieves: Forsaken Shores - Official Teaser Trailer

The next free Sea of Thieves expansion, Forsaken Shores, is not going to launch on time. In a blog post, developer Rare said the expansion will now launch on September 27, which is about one week later than its previously announced September 19 date.

Rare did not reveal a specific reason for the delay, but the UK studio said in its blog post that the extra time will help the team deliver a "stable, polished, and bug-free experience."

"This was not a decision that was taken lightly, and we know this may disappoint fans who were looking to play the update this week," Rare said. "The who team appreciates the community's understanding for this change in our release plan."

Forsaken Shores adds what players have been asking for: more stuff to do. It introduces a new volcanic region that players can explore and complete challenges. You can watch a teaser trailer for the Forsaken Shores update in the video above.

The Forsaken Shores expansion follows the Hungering Deep and Cursed Sails add-on that launched earlier this year. Rare is planning more content in the future, while a battle royale mode has not been ruled out.
