Now Playing: Testing Out Nerfed Thanos In Fortnite's Latest Mode

Update: End dates for limited-time modes in Fortnite usually aren't announced far in advance, but we now know when Infinity Gauntlet will come to a close. The mode, which provides players with the chance to play as Avengers: Infinity War's Thanos, ends on Tuesday, May 15. That makes this your last chance to dive in and get some seat time with Thanos. As noted below, he's now much easier to kill than when he first launched, although he remains extremely deadly. At this point, we don't know if Epic plans to ever re-introduce the mode, so you should jump in while you still can if you're interested. The original story follows.

Epic Games is updating Fortnite again to make changes to the limited-time Avengers: Infinity War mode, Infinity Gauntlet, which features the mega-powerful Thanos. Specifically, the update will change his attributes to make him more powerful, but also somewhat easier to kill.

Starting off, Thanos' Beam is now deadlier; it does 20 damage instead of 12. Additionally, punch damage is increased from 80 to 100. Balancing this out somewhat is the fact that Thanos' health now stands at 500 instead of 800. Regarding these changes, Epic said in a post on Reddit, "Our goal is to allow more folks to truly experience the power of Thanos, while also making you feel powerful when wielding the gauntlet."

Today's update also addresses loot drops in the Infinity Gauntlet mode. With the update, only Rare, Epic, and Legendary-level weapons will spawn, which in turn should give players more firepower to help take down Thanos.

The new Fortnite update also makes some general changes, including lowering the height of the battle bus and a bigger storm circle at the start of matches. These moves are intended to provide more players with a fair shot at playing as Thanos. A strategy for acquiring the Infinity Gauntlet involved jumping out of the battle bus at the last moment and hovering in the air until the comet carrying the gauntlet crashed into the island.

Additionally, the spawn rate for med kits, chug jugs, and big shields are increased. You can see the full patch notes below. Infinity Gauntlet launched earlier this week. Thanos was too strong at the start, and Epic nerfed the character right away.

Fortnite Patch Notes:

Thanos Changes

  • Increased Beam from 12 to 20 damage on players.
  • Increased Punch damage from 80 to 100.
  • Decreased health from 800 to 500.

General Mode Changes

  • Reduced height of the Bus when dropping
  • Bigger initial storm circle
  • Less storm damage early game (first 3 storms from 5%/5%/10% per tick to 1%/2.5%/5%)
  • Initial Gauntlet spawn time changed from bus ride plus 30-45s to bus ride plus 120-135s
  • Increased spawn rate of Med Kits, Chug Jugs and Big Shields.
  • Removed spawn of Bandages and Slurp Juice.

@untouchables111: I got the gauntlet several times by hovering. The strategy worked - that's why Epic increased circle, lowered drop height, and increased time before gauntlet drop.

@untouchables111: Yep -- got mine on the ground too. RNG kept rolling lake...

...and all those weaponless bunnies, scurrying around...

Lots of fun for a solo mode, but 50v50 w/friends ultimately carried the late-night drinking&gaming hours this wknd.

Yeah; I was actually enjoying watching 90% of the bus-riders floating around for the first ~90sec of a match while I scooped up all the chests/loot, utterly laying waste to the 20+ people chute-swarming the drop location.

It was like a mini-game mode within a game mode. "Duck Hunt Forntite" ;)
