Fortnite 6.20 Update Lets You Re-Deploy Your Glider During Battle Royale

Epic is testing out the glider mechanic from Soaring 50s in all modes for a limited time.

A new update is on the way for Fortnite. Patch 6.20 rolls out for PS4, Xbox One, PC, Nintendo Switch, and mobile devices on October 24, marking the start of the game's recently teased Fortnitemares event. That isn't all the update will bring, however; it will also let you reuse your glider during a match--but only for a limited time. [Update: Patch 6.20 is now live, so you can now try out the glider re-deploy mechanic during Battle Royale matches.]

As Epic explained on Fortnite's official website, it is introducing the glider re-deploy mechanic from the Soaring 50s LTM to all Fortnite modes with the 6.20 update. This means that you'll be able to open up your glider again and hang glide during a match if you're at least three stories in the air. You can see a demonstration of the mechanic in the clip below.

This isn't a permanent addition to the game; Epic is only planning to have the re-deploy mechanic enabled for one week as an experiment. As the studio explained, "We're testing how providing a singular mobility mechanic that all players can use will affect regular gameplay."

Downtime for the 6.20 update is scheduled to begin at 4 AM ET / 1 AM PT / 9 AM BST on October 24. Epic hasn't provided a time frame for how long this downtime is expected to last, but once it's finished, players will be able to jump into the Halloween-themed Fortnitemares event, which will offer new challenges and "spooky rewards." Epic hasn't confirmed what these will be, but a handful of spooky skins recently leaked.

Meanwhile, the next set of weekly challenges is scheduled to arrive on Thursday, October 25. You'll have all season to complete these, which will level up your Battle Pass and unlock the new Season 6 rewards. If you need help catching up on any of the challenges available right now, you can find tips in our Fortnite Season 6 challenge guide.
