Fortnite: Season 3 Coral Buddies Secret Challenge Guide

Here's how to complete both of Fortnite's Season 3 secret challenges.

Epic Games has dabbled in secret challenges with Fortnite over the years, including a secret war between bears and gnomes last season, and this newest season is no different. There is a now series of "Coral Buddies" secret challenges that send you throughout the upper left corner of the map in order to help these little guys evolve their tiny civilization.

The four challenges that are currently available are called the Coral Buddies Wood Age Quest, Coral Buddies Stone Age Quest, Coral Buddies Modern Age Quest, and the Coral Buddies Nuclear Age Quest. They are all fairly simple if you know what to look for on the Season 3 map. Keep checking this guide to see when more secret quests are added to the map.

How Do You Complete The First Coral Buddies Secret Challenge?

The first challenge, Coral Buddies Wood Age Quest, can be completed by visiting a small island on the northwestern corner of the map. You'll find the creatures and a small encampment on the sand on the upper part of the B1 tile on the map grid. There is usually very little loot so be ready to start the game off with few weapons if you decide to land here first.

The island is not shown on the map until you've been there once. Here's the rough location:

Once you land at the island you'll see a small group of the blue creatures. Give them 100 wood by following the in-game prompt and they'll instantly build little walls and ships. Don't worry about wood—there are enough palm trees on the island to harvest the required amount of wood. Once you do that, a banner will pop up saying you've completed the challenge.

How Do You Complete The Second Coral Buddies Secret Challenge?

The second secret challenge, Coral Buddies Age of Stone Quest, has two steps. The first step starts at the same location the first one does. You'll need to return to the first Coral Buddies encampment and give them 300 stone. There isn't nearly enough stone on the island (there are a few stones) to satisfy that challenge—you'll need to collect it elsewhere before swimming there.

The lighthouse near the island is a good place to get all that brick, but I'd recommend dropping somewhere like Sweaty Sands or Pleasant Park to collect resources. It's easy to grab a boat and make your way to the island afterwards. Be sure to keep your eye on the circle as the Coral Buddies encampment could get covered by the storm early on in the game.

The second step in the Coral Buddies Age of Stone Quest tasks you with visiting three more spots near the first island. You'll need to go to each spot and pickaxe or shoot little rocks next to the coral buddies. The rock will immediately turn into a Sphinx once you do so. Congrats on helping the Coral Buddies grow as a society. Here are the three locations you'll need to go to:

The first can be found right next to the lighthouse in the C1 tile on the map.

The second is location to the south on the C2 tile on the map. It's located right next to the water.

The third and final location is on the other side of the giant whirlpool on the map. Hit this spot in the A2 tile to finish the second step of the Age of Stone challenge.

How Do You Complete The Third Coral Buddies Secret Challenge?

This next secret challenge is called Coral Buddies Modern Age Quest. You'll need to head to the same island above and give the little critters 100 metal. There is no metal on the island so it's best if you land at the helipad just south of the Coral Buddies island. Harvest metal there and then go and donate it and the critters will launch their first space expedition.

Once you do, you'll earn 25,000 experience points.

How Do You Complete The Fourth Coral Buddies Secret Challenge?

The most recent secret challenge is the Coral Buddies Nuclear Age Quest. You'll need to help these critters test out a nuclear bomb by finding a nearby canister, picking it up, and bringing it to the site. You'll find the nuclear canister at the southern edge of the island within a shipwreck.

Once you bring it back to the testing site, a little nuclear explosion will go off and you'll get another chunk of experience points for your trouble. Some players have reported trouble with accessing this mission due to the nuclear canister not spawning. Hopefully Epic Games can issue a fix for that bug soon.

What Reward Do You Get For Completing Each Secret Challenge?

You'll get paid handsomely for helping the Coral Buddies. Donating 100 wood to their cause will net you 25,000 experience points. You'll get the same for each step in the Stone Age Challenge, meaning the second secret challenge will give you a total of 50,000 experience points.

The Nuclear and Modern Age challenges net you another 50,000 experience points. Jump over to our Fortnite Season 3 challenge hub for help on the hardest tasks that Epic Games throws your way.

Yeah, this is incorrect. While this challenge does give exp, it DOES NOT give a new backbling. The one pictured is a battlepass reward though I cannot remember the teir. If the person who wrote this got the backbling while doing it it is because they leveled up to the teir from the exp of the challenge.
