Fortnite Season 10: Everything You Need To Know

Update: Fortnite: Battle Royale's Season 10 server downtime has finished and the new update is now live. There's plenty new in the battle royale game this season, so be sure to check out the full Fortnite Season 10 patch notes, which include details of the new Brute mech vehicle. One major difference of note involves how challenges work. Daily challenges are gone, and weekly challenges are now accessible only to Battle Pass owners, although there are new missions in place of the daily challenges that can even be accessed by free players. However, those can only be accessed for a week before they disappear.

Fortnite Season 10 Patch Notes

Epic Games has released the full patch notes for Fortnite's Season 10 update. As always for the start of a new season, there are a number of big new features for players to enjoy. One of the major new additions is the B.R.U.T.E. suit, a two-person vehicle that lets one player operate the turret and the other move the machine around.

There's also Rift Zones, which have been created by the Zero Point Explosion. "Locations once thought to be lost are beginning to appear, but they aren’t the same as they once were. Drop in and explore to discover what mysterious gameplay changes they have in store."

Fortnite Season 10 Battle Pass

The Season 10 Battle Pass costs the same as previous seasons', but there is a plot twist: it appears there are no more free Weekly Challenges. This means it's much harder for free players to level up their Battle Pass and earn rewards without stumping up the cash. Daily Challenges, meanwhile, are gone altogether--regardless of whether you pay for the premium tier.

When Does Fortnite Season 10 Start?

Typically a Fortnite season lasts 10 weeks, which would have put the start date for Season 10 halfway through July. This season is instead going to run until August 1, which may be due to the timing of the Fortnite World Cup. Epic may have wanted to reserve any large map changes until after the competition had ended.

Ahead of the World Cup Finals, Epic dropped the first teaser image for Season 10, confirming the new season will start on August 1 just after the game's Birthday Event, which offers its own special rewards and challenges. Items like birthday cakes and presents will also be scattered around the map, offering health/shield regen and special loot drops.

A precise time for the new season to start has not been shared, but we do know when downtime will begin. The game's servers will be taken offline at 1 AM PT / 4 AM ET / 9 AM BST / 6 PM AET in preparation for Season 10 to begin. We can likely expect them to come back online with the update within a few hours' time.

Leaked Trailer

A day before the season begins, the Season 10 trailer has leaked online. It continues what's seen in the Wednesday teaser video below, where the Zero Point orb at Loot Lake blows up. This will apparently lead to some sort of time travel shenanigans, as we see numerous elements from the past year fly by the character. The video ends with him back at the moment just before the meteor destroyed Dusty Depot. Rather than wait, Epic has seemingly just gone with the flow and released the trailer itself; you can watch it below.

Fortnite Season 10 Teasers

Each season of Fortnite typically revolves around a loose theme, and it appears Season 10's will have something to do with time, based on the first few teaser images Epic has shared in the lead up to the new season. The first teaser has the caption "Think Back" and features an image of Dusty Depot, which was destroyed by a meteor and became Dusty Divot all the way back in Season 4. The second teaser, meanwhile, is captioned "Look Forward" and shows off what looks to be a new mech suit. Notably, it features two symbols on either side of it, the left of which matches that of The Visitor, a skin available during Season 4.

A third teaser features two possible new Season 10 skins. One of these strongly resembles the old Drift skin, albeit with some tweaks. We could be getting some sort of modified version of that skin, which would fit in with the teaser's accompanying text, "twist time."

The fourth and likely final teaser is the video you see above, which shows the orb (known as Zero Point) that's been hovering over Loot Lake exploding. What the ramifications of that will be remain unclear, but you can expect this to tie into whatever map changes and theme Season 10 features.

How Much Will the Fortnite Season 10 Battle Pass Cost?

As usual, the Season 10 Battle Pass will most likely cost the usual price of 950 V-Bucks. You can buy a bundle of 1,000 V-Bucks for $10/£8, making that roughly the price point for a Battle Pass that will last over the next few months during Season 10. The Battle Pass entitles you to challenges and their associated cosmetic rewards.

What's in the Fortnite Season 10 Battle Pass?

Season 9 is ongoing, and as usual a big world event has started to set the stage for things to come. This time it was a giant battle pitting a mechanized bear against a huge monster that took place on Saturday, July 20. The robot was apparently built to fend off the monster, and when it showed up the mech automatically activated. The mech powered up by breaking into the Loot Lake vault and taking a powerful orb, then drew a giant sword to defeat the monster and left the monster's body and the sword behind.

What all this could mean for Season 10 is still mysterious, however. The themes for the seasonal changeovers are often surprising, so the next season could have nothing to do with mechs, monsters, or giant swords at all. Based on past seasonal events, this stage-setting probably created conditions for some unexpected consequences that will factor into the next big map change
