Fortnite Event Adds Skins For Michael Myers, Alan Wake, And New Halloween Weapons

Fortnitemares 2023 brings out some huge and spooky crossovers.

This year's edition of Fortnitemares has arrived in Fortnite, and it's bringing with it lots of spooky goodies: a revival of the Horde Rush PvE mode, new and returning special items and weapons in battle royale, lots of free cosmetics that you can earn by doing quests, and several new collab skins in the Item Shop like Alan Wake, Michael Myers, and Jack Skellington.

Fortnitemares will run from now until Chapter 4 Season 4 ends on November 2 at 11 Pm PT / November 3 at 2 AM ET, so you've got about three-and-a-half weeks to get in on the haunted fun. There are some significant additions to battle royale for the duration, most notably the new and unvaulted items, and a new boss enemy to battle for his unique mythic weapon: Thorne's Vampiric Blade.

That's right, the boss NPC Kado Thorne has now taken his vampire form, and when you take him down you get a melee weapon that siphons health from your enemies when you damage them, healing you. To help you with the new boss, a Wood Stake Shotgun has been added to the general loot pool--expect more of a slug shotgun, like the Breacher.

Coming out of the vault, meanwhile, are the Pumpkin Launcher, a rocket launcher that shoots laughing jack-o-lanterns, and the Witch's Broom, a mobility item that allows you gain height very quickly--it's similar to the Nimbus Cloud from the Dragon Ball event last year. And, of course, Halloween candy can be found all over the place, with each kind giving a different effect, like super speed or low gravity.

The limited-time mode Horde Rush is also returning for Fortnitemares--this is a PvE mode in which you and your teammates battle monsters across the Battle Royale island and eventually face a pretty beefy boss battle. In the process, you try to rack up multipliers and get a high score.

While there's no mini battle pass for this event, Fortnitemares comes with a bunch of quests with cosmetic rewards that anyone can earn for free. There will be a large slate of Battle Royale quests that will unlock periodically over the course of Fortnitemares, and by completing them you can earn a back bling, an emote, a glider, a lobby track, and a spray, emoticon, and loading screen.

Horde Rush also has a fresh set of quests this year through which you can earn an emoticon, a wrap, and a pickaxe.

Fortnitenitemares 2023 Item Shop skins

Epic has really stepped up its collaboration game for this year's Fortnitemares, with three major new spooky collabs hitting the Item Shop during the event. Michael Myers, the main character in the Halloween franchise, is the headliner, but Jack Skellington from The Nightmare Before Christmas and Alan Wake, just in time for his Epic-published sequel, are pretty big deals themselves.

He's waited for this night.

Jack Skellington, however, comes with the most stuff, with a pickaxe, glider, a built-in emote and also an additional normal traversal emote, not to mention his additional festive Christmas style on the skin itself.

On top of the collabs, there are four new Fortnite original skins: a spooky new Meowscles, a reworking of the Crew skin Phaedra, a swampy new Fishstick, and a guy named Seth who may or may not be a mummy. It's an impressive slate, in all.
