A top developer at Epic Games wants there to be cross-play between PS4 and Xbox One.

Speaking tonight during The Game Awards, Epic Games worldwide creative director Donald Mustard called on the industry to introduce cross-play between competing consoles. Specifically, Mustard said gamers "deserve" cross-play.

His comments came after Game Awards host Geoff Keighley pressed him on the matter, leading to Mustard squirming on stage. Keighley brought it up because Fornite unlocked cross-play between PS4 and Xbox One for a brief period of time earlier this year. However, Epic quickly shut it off, saying it was only introduced accidentally.

Microsoft has been open to cross-play support in recent years. Rocket League is set to work across Xbox One, Switch, and PC, while the developer of Minecraft (which Microsoft owns) is also open to cross-play between Xbox One and PS4. For its part, Sony has not seemed eager to allow cross-play.
