Fortnite Chapter 2, Season 2: When It Starts, [REDACTED], And All We Know

Get ready for more Fortnite in February.

Comments

Fortnite made a massive change with the start of Chapter 2. After taking the game offline completely for a couple of days--during which fans were absolutely perplexed--it came back with an entirely new map and new gameplay systems. That was a huge shift and the biggest update the game had up to that point, signified by changing the chapter instead of merely the season. But we can still expect some new bells and whistles to come when Chapter 2 Season 2 begins. Check out below for all the details we know so far.

When Does Fortnite Chapter 2 Season 2 Start?

Epic Games is fairly squishy with its release dates, only ever announcing when it expects to launch a new season of the popular battle royale. But we do have an expected date, which is as much as we'll ever get until the company is ready to flip the switch. Fortnite Chapter 2 Season 2 is slated to begin on Thursday, February 20. Server downtime will occur sometime on or around that date to bring Season 1 to a close, and when the curtain rises again it will be Season 2.

Now Playing: Fortnite Chapter 2 Season 2 Start Date Announced - GS News Update

That will mark a longer-than-usual wait for the new season of Fortnite, as the Chapter 2 changeover first occurred in October. But the longer season has been punctuated by special seasonal events and a Star Wars movie tie-in. In the remaining time left for Season 1, Epic says it will introduce new Overtime challenges and a new limited-time event. It will also be updated to version 11.50, which will include a limited test of Unreal's Chaos physics engine.

What Is The Season 2 Event?

Fortnite is known for its big splashy seasonal changeover events, which are spectacles in themselves that you can witness if you happen to join the game at the proper time. Sometimes Epic begins laying the groundwork for these weeks in advance with complex puzzles and clues, but so far the game hasn't shown any particular signs of things to come. It's a sure bet that Epic has some public event planned, but we may not start to see clues until closer to the date.

What Can We Expect From Fortnite Chapter 2 Season 2?

Epic Games actually has started to tease what to expect from C2 S2, but only in the vaguest, least helpful way possible. In its release date announcement, Epic said that Season 2 "will feature [REDACTED] with multiple [REDACTED]." So whatever it is, it has multiple somethings.

Fortnite Chapter 2 Season 2 Battle Pass

One thing you can almost certainly rely on is the Fortnite Battle Pass. After all, Epic doesn't seem likely to fix what isn't broken. Barring any major changes, it will cost another 950 V-bucks (roughly $10 USD) with a premium version for 2,800 (about $28). As usual the Battle Pass will give you a long list of objectives to complete, points to earn, and cosmetics to unlock, with a notable boost if you buy into the premium version.

In the meantime, if you're still working on this season's Battle Pass challenges, be sure to check out our Fortnite challenge guides.
