Former EA, Assassin's Creed Boss Joins Google Ahead Of Big Gaming Reveal

Google is planning to unveil its "vision for the future of gaming" next week.

24 Comments

Video game industry veteran Jade Raymond, who produced the original Assassin's Creed before joining EA where she worked on Star Wars, has landed a new job at Google.

Raymond announced on Twitter today that she's working at Google as a vice president. That's all she had to say on the matter, so it's unclear exactly what she's doing at Google.

Google operates a gaming business with its Project Stream technology that is set to be formally unveiled next during the Game Developers Conference. Raymond would be at least Google's second high-profile gaming hire, following former PlayStation and Xbox boss Phil Harrison who joined Google as a VP in January 2018.

In her most recent position at EA, Raymond served as senior vice president group general manager of Motive Studios. In that role, Raymond was responsible for leading a new business unit and studio team centered on making new IP and action games. She was also responsible for leading the strategy around EA's new Star Wars games. She left EA in October 2018.

Many video game industry higher-ups congratulated Raymond on her move to Google. Xbox boss Shannon Loftis said Google is lucky to have Raymond, while Capybara Games boss Nathan Vella enthuses, "Congrats, this is rad."

As for Google's GDC event, the company plans to unveil its "vision for the future of gaming"--and it could be related to streaming. In 2018, Google partnered with Ubisoft to test its Project Stream technology that made Assassin's Creed Odyssey playable straight through a Google Chrome browser.

In other news, recent rumors have circulated regarding Google's so-called "Project Yeti," which is said to be its own take on the home console. It would focus on streaming, and may even have its own exclusive games, but the price and details are unknown.

How is this idiot still relevant? What's with this industry praising morons that haven't been relevant, in over a decade? What has Jade done over the past 10 years, that worth a s***?

I can't imagine Google has anything of value to offer gaming.

Aw man this just keeps adding fuel to the fire that Google's gonna unveil a friggin console lol this is gonna be nuts. What I wanna know is where everybody at tho you'd think there'd be more comments here and more discussion and speculation of what the hell Google is up to. What would y'all do if it was a new console and it offered a multiplayer suite that rivaled Xbox live but was completely free or at least significantly cheaper then Xbox live and PSN? Would y'all go for it or nah?

@Marky360: I think the amount of comments helps sum up my opinion. It is very hard to break into the games industry at this stage no matter how much financial backing you have it is hard to beat the connections/relations with the industry Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo have built up over the last 20 or so years. Like Nividia with all their capital pretty much failed when it came to the shield.

Sure game streaming sounds ok on paper but there will be so many options that I believe they'll wipe each other out with the only ones left standing are those like Microsoft or Sony who actually don't solely depend on game streaming for their games divisions profit.

@gamingdevil800:

Who knows what they are doing I just love speculating about the possibilities is all. I do agree they'd have to do something monumentous to catch ppls and attention and pull them away from PlayStation Xbox and Nintendo. I also heard a rumor that Sony's about to buy Take 2 Interactive which of that happens then Google's efforts are all for naught because if GTA becomes a PlayStation exclusive then that's it you can call it quits ain't nobody beating PlayStation after that.

@Marky360: Yeah I'm sceptical about that rumor, sometimes rumors have merits though maybe Sony won't buy Take Two but will buy up some games studios. Similar rumors about EA and Valve did the rounds when Microsoft was looking for companies to buy out.

@Marky360: I read that he doesn't flat out say it isn't happening. Plus all Take Two have said is we don't comment on rumors. So who knows what could happen a few months down the line...

@gamingdevil800:

I read that he said he had no idea where this story is coming from and there is no truth to it. I seriously doubt Take 2 would get bought out by Sony as making GTA as an exclusive would seriously hamper its sales. As a matter of fact all of Take 2's games would seriously be hurt by being exclusives their sales would drop significantly.

How does someone that's only shipped 7 games and none in the last half decade, keep getting multi-million dollar jobs? It's like a kid that cooked at a pizza joint for a few years being named Vice President of the Food Network.

@loveblanket: I think your simile shows a great misunderstanding of what a producer or executive producer of a game does.

I was thinking that she ruined the AC and SW franchise, and They choose to hire her anyway. Just proves how much companies needs a radiator female as a top chief to fend off feminist movements, #metoo and all that shit to not look Like a bad work enviroment.

I guess google doesnt do background checks , if they did they would know that she is the one that released the turd AC revolution that got her fired from Ubisoft and single handedly killed visceral studios and the dead space franchise and at the same time destroyed the star wars game that got canned from the uncharted director that also got her fired from EA.

It only takes to 2 brain cells to see the pattern.

@s1taz4a3l: Since you’re blaming people who didn’t work on “AC Revelations” for its failure, can we also blame Michel Angel, Shigeru Miyamoto and Bob Dylan?

As far as killing Visceral and the “Dead Space” franchise: that was done several years before she got to EA, thanks to “Dead Space 3.” After that game, the IP was dead and the studio mortally wounded, though it took a few more years to bleed out.

It also takes two brain cells to make up a BS pattern based on incorrect facts.

@s1taz4a3l No she didn't. She was the executive producer of AC, AC2, ACBloodlines, Splinter Cell Blacklist, and Watch Dogs. Before that she had worked on games likes Beyond Good and Evil. Martin Schelling was the producer on AC Revelations. And she didn't get fired from EA, she left that dump because they crapped on years of her work producing a Star Wars game that actually might have been good. You don't have a clue what you're talking about.:

does google make any PC or console games besides trash android games?

Wasn't amazon starting to develop a rpg game recently? It looks kinda generic, but when a company has billions of dollars and resources in its hands, they could create a pretty massive game very quickly.

I remember when she worked on Beyond Good and Evil as a producer or something like that. Then she worked her way up Ubisoft, running one of their new internal studios. I guess working at EA wasn't her thing. But she went from a low level game position to being a VP at Google. Good for her.

She always worked on good games and is gorgeous. Brains and beauty ?

@Vodoo: She worked on a Star Wars that took inspirations from Mass Effect. They announced it at E3 or a conference but EA decided to shut down the project for y'know games as service agenda.
