Force Feedback Prices Come Down

Expensive PC-based force feedback is starting to come down in price for the average gamer with new Microsoft joystick.

For a long time, gamers who wanted the arcade-like thrill of force feedback either had to continuously pop quarters into an arcade box or spend about US$180 on CH Products' Force FX.

With the advent of varying types of force feedback technology, Microsoft is pushing back with its new Sidewinder Force Feedback Pro stick. On the street, the new stick is selling for around $150 and this appears to have been the straw to break CH Products' back.

On October 1, CH announced that it was reducing the price of the Force FX joystick from an MSRP of $249.95 (street price around $180) to $219.95 (street price $99.95).

Since the Force FX hits its first birthday in November, will this be the next runaway technology to take hold of gamers? One thing is for sure, prices like these are more likely to push force feedback joysticks under a Christmas tree near you.
