Five Nights at Freddy's Movie Gets Oscar-Nominated Director
Warner Bros. taps Gil Kenan, director of the new Poltergeist remake, to direct the upcoming movie.
The live-action movie based on Scott Cawthon's horror game series Five Nights at Freddy's has found a director. Deadline reports that Gil Kenan, nominated for an Academy Award for 2006 animated movie Monster House, has signed a deal with Warner Bros. to direct the upcoming Five Nights at Freddy's movie.
Kenan will write the script alongside Tyler Burton Smith, who most recently worked at Finnish developer Remedy Entertainment as a writer for upcoming Xbox One game and TV show Quantum Break.
Veteran producer Roy Lee (The Departed, The Lego Movie) is attached to produce the film.
Monster House, produced by Steven Spielberg and Robert Zemeckis, was Kenan's first big gig. He went on to direct the movie version of City of Ember in 2008; most recently, he directed the 2015 Poltergeist remake.
Five Nights at Freddy's 4 was originally supposed to launch in August, but it actually arrived last week. It's the fourth Five Nights at Freddy's game launched in the span of one year. Looking ahead, players can expect free DLC on Halloween.
Five Nights at Freddy's is legitimately terrifying. In the game, players must survive in a scary version of Chuck E. Cheese's that's full of animatronic monsters. Take a look at the video below to see it in action.
