The first trailer for Scream is here. The fifth movie in the hugely successful horror series hits theaters on January 14, 2022.

The trailer starts with a scene that will be very familiar to fans of Wes Craven's 1996 original. A girl is terrorized at home via her phone, by a scary-sounding man who wants to "play a game." But this time round the killer is using modern tech to make his way into her house.

We then cut to Sydney Prescott (Neve Campbell), the main character of the series, who is told that the murders have started again, leading her, Dewey Riley (David Arquette), and Gale Weathers (Courtney Cox) back to Woodsboro to confront the evil Ghostface once more. There's also a new cast of young actors, plus the traditional discussion of the slasher movie "the rules." Check it out below:

Scream is directed by Tyler Gillett and Matt Bettinelli-Olpin, who previously helmed 2019's acclaimed horror-comedy Ready or Not. The movie also stars Jack Quaid (The Boys), Melissa Barrera (Vida, the upcoming In the Heights), and Jenna Ortega (Insidious: Chapter 2, Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous).

In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Campbell discussed how she felt about returning to the series, after four previous movies directed by the late Craven. "I genuinely was in two minds," she said. "The idea of making these films without Wes seemed challenging to me. I loved the man very much. But Matt and Tyler wrote me a letter, speaking of their appreciation and great respect for Wes Craven, and speaking of the fact that the very reason that they are directors today was because of these movies and because of Wes, and that meant a great deal to me."

In related news, Ghostface also appears in Call of Duty Season 6. The Ghostface skin is officially set to be available on October 19, but some players who pre-downloaded and installed the update are already seeing it. The character skin is appearing as a locked option in the Operators menu under the Warsaw faction.
