First New Prince Of Persia Game In 13 Years Announced
Revealed during Summer Game Fest, Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown is a 2D platformer by the developers of Rayman Legends.
Ubisoft has announced a revival of the Prince of Persia franchise with Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown. The game is being developed by Ubisoft Montpellier, the studio behind the beloved platformer Rayman Legends, and harkens back to the series' origins as a 2D action-adventure game. It's coming January 18, 2024.
The new game stars Sargon, a young warrior in a group called the Immortals. They're sent to rescue Prince Ghassan from a cursed Mount Qaf, and then get caught up in a larger plot that threatens the balance of the world. Ubisoft says that the story s inspired by Persian mythology, and will use a Metroidvania structure, allowing you to acquire new time powers to progressively unlock new areas and solve puzzles in Mount Qaf. The soundtrack is being composed by Iranian-born composer Mentrix, along with Gareth Coker.
Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown is c oming to PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and Amazon Luna.

The game is unrelated to the postponed remake of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time being developed by Ubisoft Montreal following work by Ubisoft Pune and Ubisoft Mumbai. The remake has been hit by a series of delays since its announcement in September 2020, and in May 2023 Ubisoft confirmed that the game would not appear at June's Summer Game Fest as the game was "still in an early stage."
We recently had the opportunity to visit Ubisoft Montpellier and play The Lost Crown, and we'll have more on the game following Ubisoft Forward next week.
The original Prince of Persia was a 2D platform adventure game developed by Jordan Mechner and first released on the Apple II in 1989. The game was followed by two sequels--Prince of Persia 2: The Shadow and The Flame in 1993 and Prince of Persia 3D in 1999.
The series was then rebooted in 2003 with the critically acclaimed release of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time for PS2, Xbox, GameCube, and PC, which itself spawned three sequels--Warrior Within in 2004, The Two Thrones in 2005, and The Forgotten Sands in 2010. A spin-off, simply titled Prince of Persia, was released for the Xbox 360, PS3, and PC in 2008.
Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown is scheduled for release on January 18, 2024 on Nintendo Switch, PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
