Development house Ratbag is among the best-known developers in Australia, having worked on games such as Powerslide on the PC for GT Interactive and most recently Dirt Track Racing. The company now wants to use this experience to develop the first sprint-car racing game for the PlayStation 2 based on one of the most popular sports in the US.

The game has the provisory name Spin, which will most likely be changed as the release date approaches. The developers want to reflect two of the main aspects of sprint-car racing in the game, which is the immense level of acceleration unleashed by the vehicles and the spectacular collisions that can occur during a thrilling race.

Ratbag will focus on car physics in this game. Players will get to see particle animation effects like dust, exhaust smoke, splattered tracks, and shattered cars. Once your car gets damaged (which for sure will be the case), you can repair your car in certain facilities. Whether this will happen during a race or between races is unclear at the moment. The player's ability to drive will also have an effect on the car in other areas, for example tires can blow out occasionally or the engine might stall.

The game is also meant to support multiplayer modes, but we don't know any details about them yet. We've obtained some screenshots for you that show the level of detail of the cars in the PlayStation2 game.
