First Look: PS2 Formula One 2000

The Formula One sport is huge in Europe. Knowing this, Psygnosis begins development on a new PS2 F1 racer.

If you're thinking Formula One on the PlayStation, then you also have to think of Psygnosis, because its studio in Liverpool created the original series that took off in 1996 with Formula One 1997. Since then, Bizarre Creations has worked on the series, as have other developers. However, last year Electronic Arts picked up the Formula One license, and its first F1 game, F1 2000, recently launched in Europe.

Psygnosis is preparing to strike back though with Formula One 2000, almost identical in name to EA's product. However, the PS2 is new territory, and for Psygnosis, this means more realism.

Of course the usual updates are no exception in this title: new drivers, new statistics, accurate race plan, and teams. Psygnosis is also striving for innovative features. One of the things we found most interesting is the replay handling. Players can have a look at their replays, save them to the memory card, and compare their relative standings in Formula One 2000, which will then give them a rank such as "expert" or "rookie." Players also have the option to save several replays to the memory card, then look at two replays at once and compare them with each other.

This is all we know about Formula One 2000 at this stage. Enjoy the screenshots for now, which are not official screenshots since they are not approved yet by the Formula One Association (FOA). Expect minor changes in track design when the game hits the streets later this year. We'll show you new screens as soon as we receive them.
