First Look: PlayStation2 Surfroid

Check out our hands-on impressions and media for the innovative new PS2 surfing game.

One of my favorites at this year's Spring TGS was Ascii's surfing game for the PlayStation2. Even though the game's development was very early, we liked seeing something new and innovative for the new Sony platform. Surfing uses a specific add-on for your PS2 controller that lets you control the action as an actual surfer would. This device, which is shaped like an actual surfboard, clips on to the analog sticks on the PS2 controller's face.

Graphically, the game already looks pretty good, but Ascii reminded us that the title's development is extremely early. In terms of the control, however, once you figure out the whole minisurfboard mechanism, it's actually quite fun.

We've put together some video and screens of our Japanese correspondent - and master surfer - Yutaka Ohbuchi catching some serious waves. Enjoy it, dudes.
