First Look: PlayStation2 Dropship
We bring you first screens and details on an action-combat game currently in the works for the PlayStation2.
Dropship is a game that places you in control of a kind of futuristic zeppelin vehicle that faces air-to-air and air-to-ground battles. You're a rookie pilot who will be flying different types of dropships that are massively armed and capable of several flight modes. To proceed, you will have to succeed in individual missions.
The game attempts to mix three genres or elements, which are space-to-ground, real-time strategy, and flight-sim combat. You can drop through the stratosphere and deliver troops on the ground while you're being attacked from other flying vehicles. It will be your mission to accomplish certain key strategic positions and coordinate your troops. As the game progresses, a huge war will escalate in which you'll play a central role. During the game, you will be required to make decisions that will have an impact on how the conflict will evolve.
Dropship is currently being developed by Psygnosis' Camden Studio, which was responsible for the shoot-'em-up Blast Radius and Kingsley's adventure. The company is also working on the PlayStation game Team Buddies, which should be released soon.
We've obtained first screenshots of Dropship for you, but these don't feature textured objects yet. We're not sure if this is due to the game being early or if it's an intentional effect. We'll keep you updated.
