Electronic Arts has released the first screenshots from Knockout Kings 2003 for the GameCube. The game is taking an arcade-style approach this year, with flaming fists and power-ups. Muhammad Ali, Joe Frazier, Roberto Duran, Sugar Ray Leonard, Felix Trinidad, Lennox Lewis, Oscar De La Hoya, and Fernando Vargas round out the list of real fighters included in the game. In addition, there will be 20 fictional boxers included, as well as the ability to create boxers from scratch and use them in the game's deep career mode.

The gameplay features a progressive damage model that causes boxers to become more powerful as they're dishing out the punishment, and selectable special punches can be used at any time. A more detailed statistics tracking system and a single-elimination tournament mode rounds out the list of the game's new features.

Knockout Kings 2003 for the GameCube is currently scheduled for release early next year. We'll have more information on the game when it becomes available.
