First look: FIFA 2002

Electronic Arts is readying the next incarnation in the world's best-selling sports game franchise for release this Christmas. See the first PS2 screenshots from the game.

EA invited the European press to an event a few weeks ago in Paris, where it had assembled some of the finest soccer players and trainers to introduce FIFA 2002 to journalists. Today, we bring you first screenshots from the game, taken from the PlayStation 2 version. The event in the French Centre Technique National Fernand-Sastre in Paris hosted some of the top names in Soccer, such as trainer Giovanni Trappatoni, Iker Casillas (Real Madrid), Thomas Radzinski (Anderlecht), Nawaf El Temyat (Al-Hallil, Asian player of the year) and German soccer legend Lothar Matthäus.

Although the gameplay will remain relatively unchanged, there are a few differences in this year's version. For example, the passing system now features a power bar for greater accuracy. Modes of play include friendly, FIFA World Cup qualification, multiplayer, season, tournament, and training. Player-creation, team-creation, and team-management options are also available. We'll have another update on the gameplay soon.

The game is expected to ship during the holiday months for the PC, PSOne, and the PlayStation 2. The screenshots shown are from the PS2 version.
