Konami's ESPN the Games line returns with the second installment in its snowboarding line, titled ESPN Winter X-Games Snowboarding 2002. New to this year's game is a boardercross event and a snowboarder mode that Konami calls a snowboarding RPG. Essentially, in the snowboarding mode, players can create their own riders by tweaking their hairstyles, height, weight, and skin color, among other variables. As players compete to earn money, they can buy new clothing, equipment, and moves to advance from lowly events based in their hometown to the Winter X-Games. In addition to the new gameplay modes, Konami is also adding 20 new courses to the game. They are based on real-world locations such as the Alps, Scandinavia, Japan, Canada, New Zealand, Colorado, and Alaska.

ESPN Winter X-Games Snowboarding 2002 is currently in development for the Sony PlayStation 2 and the Microsoft Xbox. The screenshots shown are from the PS2 version.
