First look: Batman Dark Tomorrow

Kemco has released new details on and screenshots from Batman: Dark Tomorrow, which will be released on the GameCube, PlayStation 2, and Xbox. The storyline--which was cowritten by Kenji Terada, who also worked on Final Fantasy and Final Fantasy II--begins with the disappearance of Gotham City Police Commissioner James Gordon and the lockdown of Arkum Asylum. As Batman, players will have to infiltrate Arkum Asylum to find Gordon and uncover clues that reveal a bigger plot involving a criminal mastermind. The game will include a number of well-known Batman villains including Mr. Freeze, Poison Ivy, and The Joker.

Batman: Dark Tomorrow is a third-person action adventure game in which players will have to use a number Batman's skills--such as hand-to-hand combat and stealth--in order to progress through the game. To aid him, Batman will also have access to plenty of traditional Batman gadgets such as the batarang, the batgrapple, the batcuffs, a minicomputer, and more. Players will even be able to use night vision via Batman's cowl. The game will take place in a variety of locations in Gotham City, including Arkum Asylum, the docks, the sewer system, an abandoned steel factory, and Gazette Square.

Batman: Dark Tomorrow is scheduled for release on the GameCube, PlayStation 2, and Xbox in Q4 2002.
