Konami has today revealed that it is working on a third-person action game for the PC named Apocalyptica. The game is set in a dark future where Earth has become a battleground for the forces of heaven and hell, and humankind has been forced to flee the planet and establish new colonies in the farthest reaches of the universe.

After manifesting himself on Earth and subsequently being destroyed by the Lord's wrath a number of millennia ago, Satan has been reborn from the flames as Neo-Satan and has once again set about building himself a great army. Players will assume the role of one of four technologically advanced but fanatically religious soldiers who, along with the rest of their team, must embark on an epic quest to rid Earth--which Neo-Satan has renamed Nu-Hades--of the forces of evil once and for all.

Played from a third-person perspective, Apocalyptica will be primarily combat-oriented and will feature a varied arsenal of both melee and projectile weapons for players to employ. Locales in the game promise to be very diverse, ranging from cathedrals on colonized planets and spaceship interiors to satanic catacombs on alien worlds and hell itself.

In addition to the single-player campaign, Apocalyptica will feature a number of different multiplayer modes, including an option to team up for missions from the single-player game. We'll bring you more information on Apocalyptica as it becomes available, but in the meantime, you might be interested to check out the official Apocalyptica Web site.
