Following last week's teaser, Universal Pictures has now released the first full-length trailer for its new action movie The Mummy starring Tom Cruise. It's a pretty incredible, over-the-top trailer that teases an epic story. Check out the video below.

Universal has also released the official synopsis for The Mummy.

"Thought safely entombed in a tomb deep beneath the unforgiving desert, an ancient princess (Sofia Boutella of Kingsman: The Secret Service and Star Trek Beyond) whose destiny was unjustly taken from her is awakened in our current day, bringing with her malevolence grown over millennia and terrors that defy human comprehension," reads a line from the description.

"From the sweeping sands of the Middle East through hidden labyrinths under modern-day London, The Mummy brings a surprising intensity and balance of wonder and thrills in an imaginative new take that ushers in a new world of gods and monsters."

The Mummy is set for a June 2017 release, and is directed by Alex Kurtzman, who co-wrote the first two Star Trek movies in the current reboot series. It also stars Annabelle Wallis (X-Men: First Class) and Jake Johnson (Jurassic World), while Russell Crowe is set to make an appearance as Dr Jekyll.

The Mummy will be the first of Universal's classic monster movie franchise. While it is the only film so far in this connected universe to be officially announced, we know that a Van Helsing movie is in development, and Crowe is expected to return for a standalone Jekyll and Hyde film.

It has also been reported that Johnny Depp could star in The Invisible Man. Other names that are reportedly in consideration for roles in the series are Dwayne Johnson and Javier Bardem, to play the Wolfman and Doctor Frankenstein respectively. Universal has scheduled further films for April 2018 and February 2019.
