Unwilling to allow EA to hold the title for more than a week, the latest addition to Square Enix's flagship series this week became the fastest selling game of 2010 in the UK. The PlayStation 3 version of Final Fantasy XIII accounted for the lion's share of those sales, too--54 percent of sales came on Sony's platform, according to the British media sales tracking body Chart-Track.

The first Final Fantasy game to appear on the current generation of home consoles pushes Battlefield: Bad Company 2 down to number two, a mere week after the first-person shooter gained the coveted top spot. Final Fantasy XIII takes with it the title of fastest selling game of the year in the UK; a fate it shares with Bayonetta and Mass Effect 2. Ubisoft's Just Dance continues to exhibit a chart presence usually reserved for Nintendo-developed games and shifts down to number three. Story-driven thriller Heavy Rain continues to hold position at number four, while Wii Fit Plus and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 both climb up one position to number five and six, respectively, forcing Sonic & Sega All-Star Racing into the number seven position.

Chart-Track also reports that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 has displaced GTA: San Andreas to take the second spot in the all-time total UK sellers chart. The UK's best-selling game of all time, Dr Kawashima's Brain Training on the Nintendo DS, continues to fend off competition from the console big hitters and still holds an unchallenged record for the amount of time spent on the chart.

Other noteworthy releases include Ben 10: Alien Force-Vilgax Attacks, which hit the charts at number 13, followed closely by THQ's' Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War 2 - Chaos Rising at 14. Sega's two big releases for the week debuted further down the chart, with PS3-exclusive Yakuza 3 taking the number 24 spot and Sonic Classics Collection on the DS at 35.
