LOS ANGELES--The entire game industry is working overtime because of this week's Electronic Entertainment Expo, and the people working on Sony's PlayStation Network store are no different. Ordinarily updated only on Thursdays, the online storefront for the PlayStation 3 and PSP is getting three new volleys of content this week for North American consumers.

Sony opened up the release spigot Tuesday with the addition of two hit PlayStation games to the downloadable catalog: Final Fantasy VII and Medal of Honor. Final Fantasy VII is the oldest game in the Square Enix series yet to be remade, but at least those clamoring for Cloud and Sephiroth will be able to relive the original story for $9.99. Meanwhile, Electronic Arts' original World War II shooter Medal of Honor will cost the more standard $5.99.

The rerelease isn't the only Final Fantasy-related content new to the PlayStation store. Sony also put up new themes, trailers, and wallpaper for the upcoming PSP fighting spin-off Final Fantasy: Dissidia. Rounding out the releases are free downloadable content for Dynasty Warriors: Strikeforce and a slew of E3 trailers for Uncharted 2, Fat Princess, Heavy Rain, and more.

So nice to play this on my PSP

Avatar image for KAISERKONG

@BlueScar The game weighs in at 1.32gb so you will need a larger card to store it. 2gb cards are pretty reasonable now...I would go for it!

Avatar image for NAWAF005

wont this come for Europe customers too?

Avatar image for Xeltosxx

Yeaaahhhh, Downloading Now ;D

No more paying high dollar for it on Ebay.

Bluescar... No, your memory stick is too small. You need room for at least 1.4 GB to play it. It's a huge game.

Avatar image for akira_hayase

thanks for all your answers! so this FF7 is from ps1, not the psp crisis core version. thanks for clearing everything up. no wonder it costs a lot less :) i also saw some games that are much cheaper in PSN than in local stores, i guess this is a way of saving money? :)

Avatar image for shabulia

I already bought mine last night and have been playing like crazy. Final Fantasy VII is BACK!!! It's awesome on PSP for those wanting to know. A must buy. Oh, and it's only $9.99!!! Freaking amazing!!!

Avatar image for roguetrada

when will ff7 be available for us in europe/uk?

Avatar image for SalarianChemist

Final Fantasy 7 can already be purchased by anyone on their PC. Also, I think people don't realize that this version of Final Fantasy 7 is not being released on Blu-ray. It is simply being released as a download online, just like it was in Japan. This isn't anything special. If you want to play Final Fantasy 7 right now, you would be better off buying the PC version. If Square Enix is making the decision to "milk" the FF7 franchise, then that is their decision, because it is a business decision. But in all honesty, I think Square Enix needs to do a better job of "milking" since there are far more users of Xbox Live in the Western markets than there are PSN users. Japan already has seen this release, so if Square Enix is going to release this game in the western markets, it would be virtually effortless for them to include the Xbox Live Arcade service. Microsoft needs to get their act together with this one. I sure hope the reason why Xbox Live Arcade didn't see this release was because of the stupid "size limit" that Microsoft put on Xbox Live Arcade, except during "special" circumstances. If Square Enix asked, I hope Microsoft would allow FF7 to be considered "special."

I've played RPGs for a long time... but when VII came out, those that didn't play this genre jumped on the bandwagon.

I only have a 1g card in my PSP will I have enough room? Never used the PSN before.

Avatar image for MGSFan92

yeah, I saw it yesterday, I was like omg!! I paid like 70 for a mint (but used) black label hard copy like, a year ago, and it's a great game.

Avatar image for DDR_Midian

@finaleve: what's the point in saying you don't get why people like one of the most popular games ever made? The answer is obvious: you're just missing something. If it's that popular then the flaw lies with you, not the majority.

Avatar image for DDR_Midian

@akira_hayase: $9.99 is the correct price, no additional charges. That's the price in dollars so I'm assuming you're on the US store.

Avatar image for knuckelsix44

Lets think about it this way for a second...What if Squares Main Goal (besides milking us for $9.99) is to see if a remake would sell? With Advent Children Bluray and This PSN release of FFVII what if they just want to see if a remake for this FF title will sell? Have you guys thought of that?

Avatar image for hagiiiiiiiiii

Akira it's ff7 for ps1, so yes it is 9.99, but there is an additional fee of taxes and what not so it adds up to around 11.50. PSN is using US currency.

Avatar image for akira_hayase

i'm quite new to the PSN store thing, sorry if this sounds stupid, but i just went on the psn store from my psp, and it saids for FF7 it's for $9.99. are taxes included and is there additional charges? because it seems a bit odd as stores sell their UMD for $49.99+ but in PSN, it's only $9.99? and what currency is the PSN using? thanks

Avatar image for Degan_Hellstorm

Ok, yes its just a port of a game most of us already have, but what you're forgetting is that it can be put onto your psp. So basically its 10 bucks for a portable ffvii! I bought it last night.

Avatar image for masterfarticus

So much for a remake. Damn.

Avatar image for finaleve

@ geedotherodian TOO MILK ALL THE FF7 FANBOYS! THATS WHY Still don't get why people love this game so much. It isn't that great! There are much better games out there!!

Avatar image for xSOCxNOTORIOUS

So maybe it isn't a remake, but I have never gotten the chance to complete this game so this is great for me. Sure I could of bought the hard copy, but that costs $60 which is crazy for such an old game. $9.99 is much more reasonable, and the fact that it transfers to PSP is a bonus!

Avatar image for joeyfine

cool i'll download this one :)

Avatar image for mystwade

nice move sony....NOT!!!

Avatar image for Bladescorpion

so glad I payed 80 for a like new coy 7 months ago...

Avatar image for dentui

LMAO hahaha wow people here think they are remaking Fina Fantasy 7 for the PS3? HAHA NO. They are just re-releasing meaning releasing FF7 again but to be available to download from the PSN store.

Avatar image for cyw1988

!@#$% I saw the headlines and was like "OMG!! Biggest news of E3!!" until I realised that it's just the ps1 title re-released... =( Well definitely getting a copy (since my old one no longer works), but where's my remake!! come on Square!! we all know you want to...

Avatar image for Fou_Lu

Hear that FF7 fans? The game you can never let go of, no matter how poorly written the story was, is being re-released in all it's original, cube-graphics glory! The phrase "Let it go, it's not as good as it was when you were 7." comes to mind.

Avatar image for WINDWAKER1

why not just remake it like all of the others?

Avatar image for geedotherodian

why did they make it $9.99! Every other PS1 classic is $5.99

Avatar image for SchumiF1

This is great for those that never got the game or had it broken/lost/etc. Thank you Square....Now about the full remake of the game :D

Avatar image for corwinn01

I think people are confusing RERELEASE AND REMAKE.

Avatar image for Da_Skull_King

i own the original, got tired of waiting and just got the original game to experience it

Avatar image for Eagles5

Avatar image for ACEGMR

ppl this is not saying FF7 is being remade just re-released on PSN. if they do remake it( which i REALLY want), it definatly wont cost $9.99. but i think this could be a good sign they are trying to milk every1 to buy the old ff7 and once every1 does, then they can announce a remake :D

Avatar image for Ted_Zanarukando

This is a bad idea. I would rather play an HD remake of the game than to play a lazy port. This does not necessarily rule out the possibility of a Final Fantasy VII remake. In fact, the Final Fantasy VII staff has already refused to rule out the possibility of a full-fledged remake for PS3. That may happen after Final Fantasy Versus XIII is released in Japan.

Avatar image for guynamedyeah

awesome, getting this as soon as it comes out.

Avatar image for Da_Skull_King

somberfox: the ff5 port for the gameboy counts as a remake

Avatar image for PSFreak1

love this game, always holds a peice of my heart!

Avatar image for azngamer09

---Heh, so they finally decided to do a re-make of FFVII? curious since they been doing re-makes for all the others. >.

Avatar image for DarthVillainous

@karnovrpg Or simply never had a PS1/2/3. Anyway, while this is all well and good, I would much rather have that fabled remake of it, or (even better) said fabled remake along with FFVII-2. Now THAT would be something worth getting excited over, rather than this MMO nonsense they're going with.

Avatar image for corwinn01

I am playing the original now and mastering all materias more than once.

Avatar image for hobotech64

If you haven't played this probably don't exist.

Avatar image for somberfox

"dumbass. THe FF5 on GBA was considered a remake. -.-" Uh, no it wasn't. Neither was FF4 Advance, which later DID get a remake for the DS.

Avatar image for GatCloudX

FF3 got a fullblown update on the ds

Avatar image for ff-gamer

wait so square enix is finally lstening to its fans and remaking ff7 yay

Avatar image for Darkmoonchild08
