“This is a crystal idol.” Thus begins the extremely short trailer for Final Fantasy: The Crystal Bearers shown at Nintendo's press conference at E3 2009. After watching these few brief moments, we learned very little about the upcoming Wii role-playing game--but we do know we're interested in seeing more.

The trailer cut from one scene to the next, each of which lasted for a second or two at the most. The most indelible image involved high-flying combat featuring traditionally vibrant anime characters that will look familiar to fans of the Crystal Chronicles series. Accompanying voice-overs proclaimed, “This guy's a bearer!” A darker side will also be explored it seems, as another voice-over lamented, “Crystal Bearers are abominations.” Unfortunately, we didn't learn much new that wasn't already known. What we do know is the game takes place in the Crystal Chronicles universe, but 1,000 years after the events of the original Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles. The Yuke race has seemingly died out, and the powerful crystal bearers are scorned for their powerful magic abilities.

Nintendo offered no additional information aside from what we could glean from the incredibly brief trailer. We'll tell you more about Final Fantasy: The Crystal Bearers for the Wii as information becomes available.
