Final Fantasy III comes to Steam, costs $16

PC players are finally getting access to the Android/DS version of the Square Enix classic.

The classic Square Enix RPG Final Fantasy III was just released today for PC. This isn't the original version though, the game is based off the Android/Nintendo DS re-release of the game.

According to the game's Steam listing, the game costs $15.99 and includes:

  • New and improved 3D visuals and story sequences
  • Quicker browsing through the monster bestiary and other game record
  • New visual designs for the Job Mastery Cards
  • Upgraded graphics for PC
  • Includes Steam Trading Cards & Achievements

At $16, the price might seem a bit steep, but what do you think? Is it worth finally getting to access this on PC, or will you opt for one of the cheaper, portable versions?

This is definitely the biggest goat-related letdown I've had in awhile. Give me goddamn goats!

So I'm here because of goats... this isn't about goats.

And it can stay that way. FF7 was the crappiest game in FF history.

Emo kid? Check.

Big tittied chick with crush on aforementioned emo kid? Check.

Momma's boy? Check.

Religious bible thumper? Check.

Final Fantasy VI (3, in the US)

The storyline was far better.

The character development was far better

The bad guy - Kefka - actually accomplished his goal, unlike that pansy assed momma's boy Sephiroth.

"The bad guy - Kefka - actually accomplished his goal"

simply echoing what every FFVI fanboy says. No original thought here.

I had this one on DS, stop playing midgame out of boredom, not worth $15 unless you are a die hard FF and if that is the case, you already own this one.

the android version is the exact same price. how is that cheaper?
and last time i looked the ds version is more expensive unless you're buying 2nd hand on ebay

I'm actually excited for the 3D version FF4.

I love it so much I would buy it again.

They should release Final Fantasy 13 on PC-- I might actually buy that one, as indeed would many others, I imagine.

Japanese games seem to be just as popular to PC gamers, they really ought to open up fully and embrace the platform-- yea, PC essentially doesn't exist in Japan, but surely they can see that it most certainly does everywhere else on Earth? Indeed, that Japanese games in general sell rather more units outside of Japan than they do inside of it.

Very much in the same way that Rockstar know that their main audience is America, even though the game is Scottish.

>no FF7 or FF8 for Android

Square have been going the way of Steam lately, start with full price then have a sale every other week, so $16 will soon be $6

Avatar image for darkprince2

$16 lol. What a laugh!

Avatar image for flashn00b

<< LINK REMOVED >> Won't be as funny when you realize that Square's on the fence about bringing FFXV to PC.

If the sales of this game aren't satisfactory, Square-Enix will stop supporting the PC

I love to see old console games on Steam, but for some reason I can't get into the redone 3D graphics of these games. There was something about the small characters, the colors, and the overhead map that made you feel like you were on an adventure exploring an unknown world. Also the 3D graphics just don't look very good. All they really needed to do was clean up the 2D graphics and make it look HD/smooth IMO. I've played a few of these old games on emulator and prefer the classic feel with the enhanced graphics from the emulators special effects that make the games look HD instead of pixelated.

Great, how about FFVII? I swear Square Enix is dodging remaking that game.

<< LINK REMOVED >> They already put ff7 on Steam...

<< LINK REMOVED >><< LINK REMOVED >> But they didn't re-do anything. They just added some achievements and called it a day.

<< LINK REMOVED >><< LINK REMOVED >><< LINK REMOVED >> Improved textures, controller support and a proper translation, as well.

<< LINK REMOVED >><< LINK REMOVED >><< LINK REMOVED >> Same With FF8, no changes, no enhancements other than "Cheats" (Magic Booster)

Avatar image for DanielL5583

<< LINK REMOVED >> Look at how long remaking FFX and FFX-2 took.
Combine the time they took to make from announcement to release, and add another year or two to it.

That is how long it will take for Square Enix to remake the game, to a level that people will like.

Avatar image for daikkenaurora12

<< LINK REMOVED >><< LINK REMOVED >> I dont think they really want to remake it. I think they are keeping it for a rainy day or something.

16 bucks for digital copy? good thing i have this game for DS it's a pretty sweet game actually

Avatar image for jemoedr

I'd rather play this on a console, and seeing those graphics, and considering it is a cheap remake, i'd say no thanks to those prices.

Come on, other old FF games where released for like €5,- on PSN...

Avatar image for flashn00b

<< LINK REMOVED >> Think of it this way: You're not paying to buy the game. You're paying to say "There is a market for your games on PC"

Not interested with this. Give us Resonance of Fate, Star Ocean, or Infinite Undiscovery instead.

Avatar image for daikkenaurora12

Star Ocean would be great

The pricepoint is indeed a little steep, but this is a really great game. It's an unpopular opinion, I realize it, but to me FFIII (this one, not VI xD) is the greatest FF of all time. With the fully realized and polished turn-based battle system, revolutionary Job System that added a whole new layer of depth to character progression and a wonderful soundtrak with very good visuals to boot, it set the standard for JRPG's during it's time.

Still wondering if i'll pick this one up, the price is a little demanding for me...

Avatar image for Erebus

This is called a skimming strategy. Let's see how far that gets you Squid Dicks.

Avatar image for OJ_the_LION

I have this on DS, but never finished it (I have very little motivation to play portable devices at home, and I drive to work unlike most people in Japan so I can't play on the train). There's a strong possibility I pick this up immediately for later consumption, and as others have mentioned it incentivizes SE to release more stuff on PC.

Avatar image for Tangsta03

Not interested in this one, but I feel like I need to purchase it since it's the only incentive Square has for releasing other FFs on PC (really hoping for FF9-12 to be released on PC as well!)

Avatar image for tom_cat_01

It's the only numbered FF game I haven't played...

Avatar image for chyll

i'll buy it when it goes on sale :)

Avatar image for raiden3788

It's a really good game, but it's overpriced. Maybe at 75% off.

Avatar image for flashn00b

Ehh... Best to not look at it as a $16 game, but rather a glorified petition that Square-Enix will definitely read, though you have to buy your signatures.

Avatar image for Lambchopzin

FF3 isn't even one of the better FF games. Maybe when it goes on sale I'll pick it up, but $16 for a port of a DS port of a 24 year old game? I'm good, thanks.

Avatar image for deactivated-58270bc086e0d

<< LINK REMOVED >> Hey 24 years old or not the original is still awesome.

Avatar image for deactivated-58270bc086e0d

I hate that version. I played the HD remasters of I and II on PS Vita from PSN and then bought III and it is all cartoony 3D rather than sprites. Doesn't look good and it doesn't feel like Final Fantasy either.

Avatar image for Coseniath

<< LINK REMOVED >> This is the FF3. You had the US Version of FF6.

Generally at the SNES-NES era, only 3 out of 6 FF games came to US.

FF1 as FF1, FF4 as FF2 and FF6 as FF3.

FF2, FF3, FF5 weren't released in US till remakes....

Avatar image for AuronAXE

<< LINK REMOVED >><< LINK REMOVED >> Well the next game after it was FF7, so I guess they forgot how to count.

Avatar image for GSyyjeager_titanyyGS

I still want 6. hmph.
