Square Enix has announced more details on its upcoming role-playing game for the 3DS, Final Fantasy Explorers. The game will feature 21 different job classes, including the specialised Blue Mage and Samurai jobs, which were previously only available at downloadable content in Japan.

Each job class possesses its own unique abilities and skillsets. Players will be able to switch, combine and level between jobs, allowing for a huge array of customisation options. You can see more details in the infographic above.

Final Fantasy Explorers follows a group of adventurers known as Explorers who seek to collect pieces of a mysterious Grand Crystal. Players can use several different characters, including a knight, monk, black mage, and white mage. An online co-op feature allows players to team up with friends. Summons, a Final Fantasy staple, also make an appearance, with Ifrit and Bahamut confirmed. In addition, players can use the game's Trance system to transform into characters from previous Final Fantasy games, including Cloud and Tifa from Final Fantasy VII and Lightning from Final Fantasy XIII.

Final Fantasy Explorers is scheduled for release in North America on January 26, 2016 for Nintendo 3DS at $39.99. Check out more screenshots from the game in the gallery below.

i looked up japanese reviews, apparently the biggest issue is the trek between fights, which is obnoxiously long, and endgame "multiple monster fights" is more like "fight one monster at a time, with a massive trek between each". i wonder if they fixed that, 'cause i really want this.

I really dug Fantasy Life, which I realize was Level 5, but this gives me a similar vibe, almost. Ah needs it.

@Silverline62: Nah, definitely Monster Hunter style.

(but in all honesty, it depends on your view point and where you are coming from)

@rkenshin13: People think it's MH because of the camera but put it with a over-the-shoulders view like CC and you will see.

I enjoyed Final Fantasy V quite a bit for its ability to customize characters. Granted customization was limited but it was really cool mixing and matching abilities of different jobs together. I don't know why it's not used in more games. It's nice to see that system make a return. In Final Fantasy V's case, I don't know that I'd take it over having more characters in the game that can join your party though.

@jinzo9988: The used that in FFX-2, Tactics, Bravely Default and now this one. in each you could use the habilities of both job that you set.

Obviously the primary job will offer more passive habilities than the second job.
