Final Fantasy 7 Remake Screens Show New Summons, Quest Types

Chocobo Chick is having a weird hair day.

A huge new batch of screenshots and character art for the Final Fantasy 7 Remake shows off new summons, more combat with Tifa, and quests. The summons are the star of the show, as we get our first looks at the wild-feathered Chocobo Chick, the dog-like Carbuncle, and the spiny Cactuar.

They're hard to spot among the screenshots since they're shown mid-battle animation, but you can see them in more detail with the character renders, along with artwork of Hojo and Red-XIII. We also get quite a few screens of Tifa using her kickboxing style against hapless goons and monsters.

The new screens also show the party taking on and turning in various quests, outlining a few new features. Mercenary Quests are ones that help the citizens of Midgar, whereas Battle Report quests have you helping Professor Hojo's subordinate, Chadley, in return for materia.

This isn't the very first look we've gotten at Red-XIII and Hojo, though, as those came from the anniversary trailer. That trailer tucked in quite a few intriguing Easter eggs to boot. The Final Fantasy 7 Remake is slated for release on PS4 on April 10.

Are they doing the combat like FFXV? I really don’t have a lot of experience with FF. It’s not that they are bad games just never really got into them till FFXV. I have to say though I really enjoyed playing FFXV. I put plenty of hours into that game. I’m not a fan of turn based combat but if they plan using the combat mechanics like XV then I’m definitely down.

these quests.. they are turning FF7 into a busywork simulator. I guess that's what you have to do if you're going to expand 5 hours of gameplay and story into a full length game.

It looks like Pennywise has added FF7 characters into the rotation.

I'm looking at those quests and hoping they haven't been counted toward the total playtime. I hate when games say they have 60 hours of gameplay, and 50 hours of it is fetch quests. Other than that, this is looking like a must have game.

@lion2447: if you took out all the repetitive quests, how are you going to fill 50 hours of content from a section of the game that is about 10% of the original game?

@lion2447: Can guarantee it’s going to be mostly fetch quests and cutscenes. Remember, you only get the Midgar section of the game...

I'll probably ignore half the side quests unless they actually have interesting narratives attached.

Ok so that one image of cactuar* fighting doesn't look like it's in midgar...look like the rocky terrain on the outside of the city.

@bentleyj10: probably some form of VR, like Crisis Core which had 300 quests all done in VR inside Midgar.
