Now Playing: Final Fantasy VII Remake - Extended Release Date Gameplay Trailer | E3 2019

It's been four whole years since Square Enix officially announced a full remake of Japanese RPG classic Final Fantasy VII for PS4 at E3 2015, and 22 years since the original game was released in 1997 for the PS1. Since the remake's initial reveal, FF7 fans have seen and heard very little about the game, but just before E3 2019, Square Enix finally unveiled Final Fantasy VII's release date: March 3, 2020. The announcement came during a Final Fantasy concert held one day before Square Enix's E3 press conference. Then, during that E3 press conference, Square Enix showed off an extended battle and gameplay sequence for the FF7 remake, as well as revealing what fan-favourite character Tifa would look like.

The team also played an extended version of the new trailer that originally debuted during the Final Fantasy concert. The trailer features Cloud, Barret, and some other familiar characters during the Bombing Mission in Final Fantasy VII. Near the end of the trailer, Aerith grabs Cloud's hand as they're surrounded by a strange black smoke.

These are huge updates for FF7 fans, who have waited anxiously for the game during its long development period. Square Enix previously confirmed the FF7 remake will be released in multiple installments and that each installment will be quite substantial; tonight, during the press conference, the team confirmed the game's remake will contain two Blu-ray discs worth of content.

Now that we have an official release date and gameplay details, more retailers are opening up pre-orders for the game. You can check out those pre-order links below, including links for the two premium editions announced during E3: a Deluxe edition and a 1st Class collector's edition.
