Final Fantasy 7 Remake Getting Dev Assistance From Naruto Studio

The development of Square Enix's upcoming Final Fantasy 7 Remake is being assisted by CyberConnect2, a studio known for its work on the Naruto fighting games and the .Hack series of role-playing games.

Final Fantasy VII Remake director Testuya Nomura and producer Yoshinori Kitase confirmed CyberConnect2's involvement in an interview with Famitsu (via Nova Crystallis). It wouldn't be the first time the studio has worked on a title in the Final Fantasy series, having previously developed the mobile game Final Fantasy VII G-Bike. Interestingly, prior to the reveal of Final Fantasy VII Remake at E3 this year, CyberConnect2 president Hiroshi Matsuyama had stated in an interview that he'd like for the studio to work on a remake for Final Fantasy VII.

Speaking in an interview with Dualshockers, Matsuyama said: "For now I’m really dedicated to adaptations of Naruto and JJBA. Working on a new project requires more time as was the case. The .Hacks came out of the minds of teams at CyberConnect2. However, if I have to work on another project I’d like to work on a possible remake of Final Fantasy 7."

CyberConnect2 is currently working on upcoming fighting game Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm 4, which is scheduled to launch on the PS4, Xbox One, and PC in February next year. The game will cover the final story arcs of the popular Naruto anime and manga and is the sixth instalment in the Ultimate Ninja Storm series.
