Now Playing: GS News Update: Final Fantasy 15 Royal Edition And Upgrade Option Announced For PS4/Xbox One

Final Fantasy XV is coming to PC at last, and it'll launch with a bunch of new content alongside all of the previously released DLC. But console players won't be left out: Square Enix has also revealed the Royal Edition for PS4 and Xbox One, which is essentially a Game of the Year edition that comes with every piece of additional content. [Update: Square Enix has now clarified that pricing for the Royal Pack has yet to be confirmed.]

The Royal Edition comes with the base game, the four big DLC packs from the season pass (Episode Gladiolus, Episode Prompto, Episode Ignis, and the Comrades multiplayer expansion), and the new DLC launching with the PC version. It also features new box art from series artist Yoshitaka Amano, which you can see below. It'll cost $50 / £40.

No Caption Provided

If you don't want to re-buy the game again, Square Enix will also sell the Royal Pack, which comes with the new content. Pricing has not been announced. This includes a new dungeon, boss fights, a new vehicle, and additional features like a first-person mode.

The Royal Edition and Pack launch on March 6. The PC version launches on the same day and comes with several PC-exclusive features like native 4K support, high-quality ambient occlusion and advanced hair support. It costs $50 in the US; check out Final Fantasy XV's PC requirements here.

Quick question. So do I need to buy the current episodic DLC separately if I have the base game on PS4? I read elsewhere that they won't come with the Royal Pack DLC/"upgrade", so I just wanted to be sure.

Avatar image for hferg81

@satchiate: I want to know the same thing. I didn't get the season pass, so I'm wondering if it's worth spending $40 for the Royal Edition or if just getting the Royal Pack for $20 is good enough.

About damn time they announce the Royal DLC for "early adopters"... 'suppose I still have time to play through Nier: Automata before I give FFXV a second spin then. Neat.

Avatar image for shadowpandora

Think I’m One of the few that will just purchase again instead of upgrading. I already have the physical Deluxe Edition on Xbox One so looks like I’ll grab Royal Edition for PS4.

Avatar image for ekirito

Honestly the best DLC they could give would be incorporating the DLC into the main story. So immersion breaking to playthem from the main menu.

Avatar image for deviltaz35

So is the PC version the Royal edition or are they offering two seperate versions?

Avatar image for shadowpandora

@deviltaz35: It’s not called that but it has all the same features as Royal Edition on consoles.

“FINAL FANTASY XV WINDOWS EDITION boasts a wealth of bonus content, including content contained in free updates to the console versions as well as paid downloadable content originally available through the Season Pass. Players can also explore the world of Eos through Noctis's eyes in an all-new first-person mode.”

It also offers mod support, resolution up to 8k and HDR10.

Have they fixed the framerate drops on Xbox one X as yet? Not much point supporting it unless they are going to do it properly.

8k supported final fantasy royal edition supports is crazy, yet no console supports 8k.

8k must be a texture thing yeah, well hell yeah because 8k textures anyday over 4k.

Qled Samsung or Sony's version looks 16k (but not ) needs ff15.

Avatar image for esqueejy

@lorddaggeroff: Believe it or not, LG's OLED TVs actually get even better picture quality, hands down. QLED is nothing but a new variant of LED LCD, and uses a backlight (the panel is transmissive - light passes through it). With OLED, the panel is EMISSIVE...the pixels generate their own light, which means they can be turned off INDIVIDUALLY, rather than relying on "zones" of LED backlights that can be turned off to assist in creating deeper black, which is the most important factor in contrast and image acuity. Each pixel being able to turn off on its own means "true" light bleed, no "bloom", etc. Go to a Best Buy and look at an LG OLED they have on's f'ing unreal....maybe surreal is a better word....the image is so good it almost looks fake.

4000 bucks for RGB. RGB wow

Avatar image for esqueejy

@lorddaggeroff: Not sure what you're getting at. Use more words to articulate a point please.

Avatar image for lorddaggeroff

@esqueejy: only videos do that.

Avatar image for lorddaggeroff

@esqueejy: Samsung's wall paper qdot TV are from another planet, shame they're for rich people who have no picture frames.

The panels thinner then my phone.

Avatar image for esqueejy

@lorddaggeroff: Yeah, the LG OLED's are like that too...maybe even thinner...because they don't require the backlights.

Avatar image for deviltaz35

@esqueejy: The trade off is still brightness though . There is much better tech coming in the next year or two. Buying an OLED now is a waste of money for their price unless you are keeping it to 55 inch or so.

Personally i am going to see how the new Nvidia Display fairs as 1 ms access time is astounding for a 65 inch display with HDR.

With built in Gsync support that is going to be incredible. Much better than LG with zero Gsync support for PC gaming and no Freesync support for console gaming on the X.

Though personally i just wish we had Gsync and Freesync in the same damn display by now.

Avatar image for esqueejy

@deviltaz35: This is true, and OLED is definitely a "price is not an object" option, but they do fine in bright rooms. I tend to play in a dark room anyway though. On CNET, one of the websites where they do all the testing with equipment and all that jazz, the Vizio M actually tested better than everything but the LG OLEDs and about equal to the far more expensive Sony 900 and 940, so I bought a 75" lol. It was reported as less bright and all that, but it's more than enough...and the screen surface is fantastic in terms of reflections. In fact, when you jack up the brightness, it's maybe a little too bright anyway.

I haven't seen anything about upcoming NVidia displays. Do you have a link? Will there be a 75" option hehe?

How is this complete edition? They planing release 3 more DLCs! I hate SE and this game, and thats all your fault Mr. tabata or whatever it is. Stay away guys its realy empty game.

The goal was 10m copy sell, but it failed. At this point, the devs adds stupid things over and over to consoles after that they releases again for Pc (they use PC fans now) they know that game is a fail but they are so scared now and they need 13-15m copy sell to make SE happy again.

Avatar image for deviltaz35

@GabrielX-X: With Monster Hunter World about to drop this game will be dead in the water anyway.

Avatar image for darkouer

So I guess that all DLC will come as a download voucher instead of an additional disc?

Avatar image for playstationzone

@darkouer: don’t buy it just found out harzion Zero dawn game of year has voucher code so this be same.

Avatar image for deviltaz35

@playstationzone: Oh wow really? That is so annoying when they do that . Just lazy bastards. Still i picked up the expansion in a recent sale in OZ on PS store for Horizon Zero Dawn for less than $20 so that was ok.

It's only about 9 GB too i think so not bad at all.

Avatar image for playstationzone

@darkouer: I’m not buying it agian just in case it’s voucher download than beginning on disc.

Avatar image for Carpetfluff

That's actually the inside cover art - it's reversible.

10 years in development

incomplete Game relased with season pass.

Here is a GOTY Edition and another Season Pass for those who brought the base game and paid $25 for the first season pass. I weep for the FF7 Remake because its going to get the same exact treatment and poeple will buy into it for name alone.

Maybe Square should take a long look at CD Projekt Red and see how RPGs and season passes are properly done.

Avatar image for deviltaz35

@yourefakenews: I think FF7 is a three part DLC thing . Sort of like Before the Storm was done.

Avatar image for kami_amaya

**** you, Square.

Avatar image for risingdawn

$20 sounds a bit suspect for 1 dungeon, bosses, 1 vehicle and a 1st person mode. Especially considering the content previously released and pricing.

Is this accurate journalism Gamespot or is it the usual lazy copy and paste job from some other shit site?

Avatar image for twztid13

@risingdawn: they were finally forced into adding an update on the cost, it seems.

Avatar image for solidsolo

i really wanted to love this game... i put about 10 hours into it before i just completely lost interest.

I'm a very old school FF fan... even playing through FF3 again on the SNES classic but i couldn't get into FF15.

Here's why:

The boy-band style characters..

The music was terrible..

The car (travelling in general)....

the hair...

story was sub-par...

The campfire leveling up system....

Avatar image for omegasloth

@solidsolo: I liked the characters enough but the biggest thing for me was the combat.

I really didnt like the combat at all, it felt less intuitive than kingdom hearts.

Holding one button to attack and then holding another to dodge??? Who green lighted that? Thats not fun gameplay.

The only cool thing was the teleport noctis had but that still couldnt save it.

Avatar image for deviltaz35

@solidsolo: i am not a huge fan of the game but when did you last play it ? . As the car goes off road now which does make it more fun. However you can't just smash into the monsters with the car making it less fun.

Avatar image for nathannugara

@solidsolo: Music was terrible? The fact that they included soundtracks from many previous FF titles I thought was amazing. If boy-band style and hair is a complaint I'm quite sure your not an old school FF Fan. Literally, almost every title has had this look for their male characters, crop tops, every belt they can even manage to fit on their body.

Travelling has been in most final fantasy games and was extremely simplified and boring. The story was even on par with final fantasy storylines....convoluted and ridiculous. Ill agree though the campfire leveling system....the guy should be fired who came up with that nonsense.

If they have all the dlc story content included in the initial release....the game would have been one of the most solid FF in years. Just my opinion and thoughts, I understand it's not some peoples cup of tea but the hair and boy band style thing ...cmon Meg Ryan ...i mean tidus from ff 10.....squall from ff8, cloud from ff7, etc. I enjoyed it for what it was worth, i would play through it again.

Avatar image for deviltaz35

The campfire levelling is not that bad , it works well in Rise of the Tombraider. Just depends how it is implemented. Personally they spent too much time on stupid things like pictures of food on FFXV.

Avatar image for uncle5555

@solidsolo: Been playing FF since FF1, so I got a little bit on ya...and yes I enjoyed it, mostly.

Been over a year since I finished it, but I don't **** that hard on it even now. It wasn't perfect, but was enjoyable. The game world was not small, if you walked a lot of it it took plenty of time to do quests, collecting, etc. even using the Regalia it took time to get around (unless you fast traveled all of the time (which I eventually started to do because the game world WAS that large).

I didn't like all of the cuts made to later parts in the game, but there was plenty there for me to put over 100 hours into it, I still plan on playing the DLC, but have had no interest in doing it yet (same as my interest level in playing BotW again anytime soon after putting in over 160 hours into that game) Both games were the longest I've played anything last year but did burn me out of them.

Different strokes for everyone, I didn't let the legend of Versus XIII spoil my time w/XV and that's probably why I enjoyed it more than most people who seem to think it was a bad game. I got past the boy band thing, which apparently you don't seem to be able to, for whatever reason, give it another chance and try to play more than 10 hours next time, you're barely even scratching the surface that far in. If you didn't start hunts or got into the 2nd area then you most definitely didn't play it enough, rushed through and didn't explore things to appreciate what you could find or couldn't get past those hang ups you listed to give it a fair skin off my ***, you're just short changing yourself by doing that.

Cest la vie.

Avatar image for dashaka

Cool, now I’ll wait until this version is $20 and I’ll finally jump onboard.

Avatar image for gamingdevil800

WTF so I have to pay more money to get the finished game with extra cutscenes and bosses in the main story?! Should of been a free update...

Avatar image for esqueejy

@gamingdevil800: have...should HAVE

Avatar image for deviltaz35

@esqueejy: Haha! .Your pet hate too hey ? :)

Avatar image for Bread_or_Decide

advanced hair support.

omg finally

Avatar image for goku_black96666

@Bread_or_Decide: lol awesome comment up vote

Avatar image for Redsyrup

@Bread_or_Decide: When you have to decide between frames and silky hair. I know what I'd rather see.

Avatar image for xOmniCloudx

FFXII: Zodiac Age and FFXV releasing on PC within a month of each other? Maybe they should have spaced that out more. Seems like XV being the more recent game is going to cannibalize Zodiac Age's sales.

Avatar image for videogameninja

Nice that they are offering a $20 upgrade version for early adopters.
