Fez coming to Steam on May 1

Phil Fish's popular Xbox Live Arcade puzzle platformer coming to PC this spring.

Popular indie adventure Fez will be released on Steam on May 1.

No Caption Provided

A listing on the Steam website revealed the imminent PC arrival of Phil Fish's intriguing puzzle platformer. No price or pre-order options are currently given on the Steam listing.

Phil Fish said in January that Fez would be coming to "other platforms" this year.

Fez was originally released on Xbox 360 in April 2012, and was awarded an 8.0 in its GameSpot review. "Fez has pitfalls you have to accept if you're going to enjoy this adventure," said reviewer Tom Mc Shea at the time. "Technical problems, baffling map design, and obtuse puzzles can serve as a serious barrier to entry. But it's worth putting up with the missteps for the wondrous adventure that awaits. Fez goes far deeper than the simple platformer it initially appears as, and figuring out the solutions to the many puzzles is an experience that harks back to a time when games weren't scared of taking off the leash and letting you run wild. Invest time in Fez's colorful world, and enjoy the wealth of incredible ideas buried within."

Fez sold over 100,000 units on the Xbox 360, though a dispute between Fish and Microsoft's certification process means the 360 version retains a bug that may cause save files to be wiped.

awesome. I've been wanting to replay this, but not enough to hook up my 360. Luckily steam has no "pay to update" model like Microsoft so we can actually get patches and what-not.

I was waiting for this to come to PS3, but I may just get it on Steam instead. My 360 has been sitting in its box for a very long time, despite the fact I've been longing to play this. ;(

As per a suggestion down on the comments, this is the kind of game to buy on Humble Bundle, and get that Phil Fish slider all the way to 0.

Redirect those all-important bucks to the charities or HB itself.

Got 10/10 in reviews.
Sold 100.000 copies.
Most overhyped bullshit ever.

@HardcoreGR Sales don't mean anything.Games are like movies, smarter more dramatic movies will be watched by less people since the average person will only want to watch action movies full of special effects(it's a market reality) and there are really more less well educated people. Also the people that review those kind of products are usually well educated in their area of work and they won't chose a movie or game that is just a special effects show. There is also the problem of taste which gives this even more complexity.I'm not saying that the game is good, just that sales don't mean anything. I will gladly chose a game like Super Meat Boy over most games that sold millions.

@HardcoreGR @shadow131990 Graphics don't mean that much. They should be fit for purpose. It depends what developers are going for ! I love 2d games more than 3d games. 3d games always seem to age.

@shadow131990 : Yeap, games should be reviewed on how entertaining they are. Only. Forget about graphics, sound or duration. Pac-Man is a 10 and Call of Duty is 5. Ok gotcha bro.

@HardcoreGR I played Fahrenheit which is similar . I find that type of games lacking interaction and moving closer to movies. I like more puzzle games or platformers. I find the graphics of Fez quite charming and the gameplay unique, i also love old style sound. I've downloaded the Super Meat Boy soundtrack and it's just great, i love it. After all those years of playing games i know i don't want the graphics, nor the stupid unfair multiplayer in those new games. The market is full of games repeating everything and i'm just sick of it. I want unique games with great challenging gameplay that are also rewarding or just fun .Developers forgot how to make challenging games and are putting save points everywhere also most new games just seem boring to me. What i'm saying is that games are also a thing of taste and i enjoy a game like Super Meat Boy more than something like Far Cry 3 even more the Batman Arkham City. I played SMB for months ,but after reaching about 70% in Far Cry 3 i rushed to the end because it became boring to me.I played a lot of shooters since Doom 2 and this game just hasn't got enough changes to keep me playing. The graphics are not worth it, i saw so many graphic changes since i begun playing video games that it just doesn't matter anymore.Right now i'm playing Trials Evolution and it seems more fun than Tomb Raider which i finished a few days ago. This game seems like a 9.5 to me and Tomb Raider seems like a 6. Games should be rated on how entertaining they are, also the reviewers personal game preferences should be known!

@HardcoreGR Yes, I know the game is good but Gamespot keeps the scores AS THEY SHOULD. Fez took a 8/10 and that is what it deserved. In terms of reviews, I'm not trusting any international media except Gamespot. Yes, it was a unique approach but giving it a 10/10 is a total fail (and that's because first reviews where near 10). If the Metacritic score as around 8/10 it wouldn't even sold half of those 100.000.

I don't care about developer's character. I don't know him personally. If he produces good games he'll take the credit from me. This one was a retro-different approach-Indie game-Puzzle Platform. It's a different appraoch, it's an indie game, but I don't care to put in a different category. It's just a mediocre game with a bit of innovation and graphics/sound aged 20 years ago. If you want SERIOUS innovation play Heavy Rain.

@HardcoreGR @shadow131990 I know for i fact that the game is good. Much better than those games that come on a yearly basis and sell a lot of million copies . Some of the shooters that come on a yearly basis sell a lot but the games are just the same, i don't call those good games, i don't know why so many play them it's the same stuff as 10 years ago and the games just get worse and worse. I'm not the kind of person that plays the same game every year just with a different number in it's title. This is a well executed unique type of game that doesn't come that often. And if you want to talk about Phil, he is an ass indeed, that's also one of the reasons the game didn't got sold so well.

@Succumbus
A)I think the game was not that good.
B)I should be a developer to judge it.

A=B ???

Seems legit! How much did Phil pay you? :-)

ps. If you want serious indie games let me introduce you to....THE MINECRAFT! Oh wait, this one had 3 developers, it's not that "indie".
ps2. If you count whether the game is indie or not, ot whether it's free or not, then I have news for you. Go and ask a 10/10 for all Free-to-play MMOs out there.

This game was a ton of fun, regardless of any related human story. I never ran into a bug, and never patched it (due to the threat of save-game-deleting).

Fixing the bugs (if they are fixed that is); doesn't change the fact that it's a product of a self absorbed, self important moron. Also, I can respect that others enjoyed the game, but I was far from impressed.

@DinoBuster being a product of a "self absorbed, self important moron" doesn't change the fact that he worked hard on it and make a good and well received game.

Probably most of the games you own had "self absorbed, self important moron" involved in it somehow.

@Nax38 @DinoBuster No doubt, I would bet money that most of my "gaming heroes" have egos big enough to sink a ship. Difference with Phil Fish, is the ego he's developed has lead him to be blatantly arrogant and disrespectful to others in his industry. Others that I may also add have accomplished far more than he most likley ever will.

@DinoBuster @Succumbus @Nax38 just imagine shoving an entire game development and publishing company into one body you'd get an idea of the crap that would come out of its mouth. He's barely able to create games, hes not a CEO or spokesperson. I prefer that hes honest and real and its nice to hear what people say. plus hes french man, that's how the french are..you should see Montreal they burn things all the time

@Succumbus @DinoBuster @Nax38 I'm not discrediting his efforts, and while I personally didn't care for Fez, I can appreciate the time and energy put into this game, or any other for that mater. It's Fish's attitude that has turned me off to his endeavors in the field.

I remember a few months ago fish was screaming off his rocker how this is a console game and should never be played on PC... then there was the whole game-breaking bug and the matter of thousands of dollars to release an update patch, and now its releasing on steam like all the other indie games made for xbla. Hopefully fish tones down the hate next time he thinks about releasing a game, because honestly the only thing that comes to mind when i hear "fez" was that it was made by Phil Fish, Phil Fish swears allot, and the main character wears a fez... or something...

@wavelength121 In this day and age, knowing how to code a game doesn't make you any less of an idiot.

The simple fact alone that he's bigoted enough to say 'all Japanese games suck' is fact enough that he's not that intelligent.

@FoxyKyoji @wavelength121 if you think that's reason enough to wipe him from peoples existence then you must know him and have personal issues along with him. I don't see someones opinion that damaging. SO WHAT! I love Japanese games but I've also been around a lot of assholes and you just have to not take things so seriously
