I would like if Marvel can take this opportunity to overhaul Thor(male) into a bit of a new character and just keep her in his place. I don't really follow him closely and i'm not sure what exactly has led to him losing his hammer but now might be the time for him to shed his title and identity, which he pretty much only has through his Father being the creator of the hammer. Maybe now he can create his own weapons and power and in the process distance himself from Odin / Asguard. I'll assume the entire basis of him being "worthy" of wielding Mjlnir to begin with is a parameter set by Odin and thus depends on Odin's perception of "worthiness". Something Thor himself or anyone else doesn't necessarily have to agree with and thus could make for an interesting plot device to get Thor "out of his Father's house" and "on his own" figuratively speaking.

Of course i seriously doubt any of that will happen. More than likely this setup will be very temporary. This new character will get a new costume, name and similar hammer just like Beta Ray Bill and Thor will be right back in the spot anyway. I suspect Marvel will go with what they deem to be the least risk sales wise.

I don't see any issue with them introducing a female with his powers. It has happened before with other characters and i'm not going to suddenly complain now because they opted for a female. Although i will say i dislike her costume design. Looks too similar to the original Thor's costume. Should have done something different with her. I'd also prefer that she came on board with some of her own abilities. Say if she was a mutant for example or something like that, instead of only just Thor's powers.

Hate to draw the religion card here but. This is blasphemy... Thor "Odinsson" is the primary or secondary God of the pantheon I and my circle follow (debate over primary/secondary is because we're never clear if Odin should still be the higher)

Well if he didn't want people to make characters depicting him as a woman... He probably shouldn't have pretended to be Freyja to get his hammer back.

But on a serious note, there's plenty of epic Norse women in the myths, so why go changing a characters sex... It just screams a lack of imagination.
