There were few surprises at this year's E3, but one that did catch us off guard and impress us was F.E.A.R., the new first-person shooter from Monolith Productions. Publisher VU Games released a mysterious screenshot of the game shortly before the show, but that didn't prepare us for the tantalizing demonstration that we saw at E3. F.E.A.R. is genuinely creepy and atmospheric. And now you can see it for yourself, as we're happy to bring you the second part of our exclusive look at the E3 demonstration. You can watch the trailer as it streams in the window below, or you can check it out in our media section.

Take a look at part two of the E3 F.E.A.R. demonstration. Double-click on the video window for a full-screen view.

In F.E.A.R., you play as a member of the elite First Encounter Assault and Recon commando team. This super secret military unit is tasked to deal with supernatural and paranormal threats; think of it as the military version of The X-Files. The demonstration gives us a glimpse of the game's opening moments: A military installation has been attacked and all contact has been lost. Even worse, an elite Delta Force team dispatched ahead of you hasn't been heard from since, and so it's up to you and your team to determine what's going on.

The second clip demonstrates some of the creepy atmosphere that Monolith is gunning for in the game. During the first clip, your character fought his way into the facility, battling groups of mysterious commandos in fast-paced, running battles. But in the second clip, strange things start to occur, and you definitely get the feeling that you're not dealing with just commandos anymore. You'll also encounter one of your teammates, and he's got an unnerving observation about all of the dead bodies that you've been stumbling across so far in the game.

We'll have the third and final part of this impressive demonstration tomorrow, so make sure to come back and check it out. You'll see why we think F.E.A.R. is one of the most promising first-person shooters of 2005.
