Production has officially begun on the next Fast & Furious movie, which will be called Fast X. See what they did there?

"Fasten your seat belts. FAST X is now in production," the film franchise's Twitter account announced not long after series star and producer Vin Diesel made his own announcement on Instagram.

The announcement that production has begun on Fast X comes just after it was confirmed that Brie Larson is joining the cast. The Marvel star joins Jason Momoa (Aquaman) and Daniela Melchior (The Suicide Squad) as Fast & Furious franchise newcomers in the new entry.

Justin Lin is directing Fast X, and it's even possible that Fast 10 and 11 will be filmed back-to-back. Fast & Furious 10 is expected to release in May 2023. The latest film, F9, made $726 million during the pandemic.

In addition to Diesel, most of the rest of the cast is expected back, including Diesel himself, Jordana Brewster, Tyrese Gibson, Chris "Ludacris" Bridges, and Sung Kang, but John Cena hasn't confirmed his return yet. The movie opens in May 2023.

As has been widely reported, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson will not be returning to the franchise. Johnson says there is "no chance" that he will return and that he prefers to end his run with the series with "gratitude and grace."
