During today's Ubisoft Forward livestream pre-show, the studio announced a new kind of Far Cry game in virtual reality. Far Cry VR: Dive Into Insanity is the latest Far Cry title and it's coming next year.

In a partnership with Zero Latency VR--a technology company that specializes in on-site, expansive free-roaming virtual reality experiences--Ubisoft is developing a VR Far Cry game that's not an on-rails shooter akin to Until Dawn: Rush of Blood. Instead, Dive Into Insanity will put players directly into the action of a traditional Far Cry game, replete with the explosions and gunfire that come accompany it. You can check out the Far Cry VR: Dive Into Insanity announcement video below.

Playing Far Cry VR: Dive Into Insanity looks a lot like laser tag. Up to eight players strap on a backpack and headset to "explore the world, interact with the world, be under attack in the world, [and] to fight back," according to Zero Latency VR CEO Tim Ruse. No official release date has been announced and it's unclear which of the company's locations will host the game, but Far Cry VR: Dive Into Insanity is slated to launch sometime in 2021. And Far Cry 3 villain Vaas Montenegro will make an appearance.
