Far Cry pushed to '04

First official word of new release date accompanies update to game's design staff.

Comments

Game publisher Ubisoft showed its hand today when it sent word out that its Crytek-developed shooter, Far Cry, had added two designers to the game's team. Not only did it tout the addition to staff, but it also revealed that the title's release would not occur until next year.

In the area of staff additions, Ubisoft said that Chris Auty has joined the Far Cry team and will act as lead multiplayer level designer. Also, Richard Tsao joins as the title's multiplayer producer. Both have deep backgrounds in the industry: Auty has worked on titles including Half-Life: Counter Strike and James Bond 007: Nightfire. Tsao has had lead roles in titles including Asheron's Call 2, Dungeon Siege, and MechWarrior 4.

Maybe the bigger news in today's announcement is that the game now has an official release date, or official release quarter, which is Q1, 2004.
