Far Cry Primal, which initially looked as if it might be a smaller, Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon-sized spinoff, is in fact as big and as long as Far Cry 4, according to creative director Maxime Béland.

Ubisoft has previously described Primal as a "full-fledged single-player experience," making the distinction that it lacks any kind of multiplayer. But as far as the single-player goes, it's not going to be a step down in scope from 2014's Far Cry 4.

"This is the next Far Cry," Béland told GameSpot when asked if Primal is the next full game or something akin to Blood Dragon. "The world is as big as Far Cry 4. It's got an immense story that you do at your own pace, there's side missions, there's bonfires. It's a Far Cry game."

In terms of length, Béland again compares it to Far Cry 4.

"I think it's going to be the equivalent of Far Cry 4," he said. "If you decide to all the side stuff, then the gameplay hours go really high. I think our single-player story, if you're rushing through, will be similar to Far Cry 4. The world is as big as Far Cry 4, too."

The first gameplay footage of Primal, which is coming to Xbox One, PS4, and PC in 2016, debuted at The Game Awards tonight. For more, check out our new preview.
