Today, Ubisoft started letting PC gamers test-fire its eagerly awaited first-person shooter, Far Cry. The publisher released a demo of the Crytek-developed game, which is based on the German studio's proprietary CryEngine. According to Crytek, the CryEngine will give Far Cry cutting-edge physics, adaptive AI, and "the longest view-distance ever witnessed in a first-person shooter."

As explained in GameSpot's exclusive preview, Far Cry is a shooter about an ex-soldier who wakes up on a desert island infested with murderous mercenaries. The demo will show a single-player level with beaches and tropical jungles.

While not yet rated, Far Cry is on track for a March 23 release at a $49.99 price point. The demo for the game can be downloaded via the link below or from DLX, GameSpot's download center.
