Far Cry closes in on factory

Ubisoft announced today that Far Cry has officially gone gold. Developed by Germany-based Crytek, the game is rated "M" for Mature and will retail for $39.99.

While it is Crytek's first game to reach completion--since its sci-fi RPG Engalus was canceled--Far Cry has been one of the year's most visible PC titles. One reason the first-person shooter has received so much interest is its engine, which can supposedly render a scale mile's worth of scenery. However, the game has also grabbed attention for less positive reasons--namely, a raid on Crytek's offices by German police (who were looking for pirated software).

Far Cry follows Jack Carver, a poverty-stricken boat captain, who is hired by a reporter that wants to be taken to a mysterious island. Like most mysterious islands, this one is overrun by individuals who are up to no good. In this case, these individuals are a group of mercenaries. After waking up in the custody of the mercenaries, Carver finds that he must fight them and the mutated inhabitants of the biotech lab they are guarding.
