Far Cry 6 Confirmed, Full Trailer Leaks Ahead Of Ubisoft Showcase [Update]

A short teaser clip shows the menacing presence of one of TV's best villains, and promises more to come on Sunday.

[Update: A full trailer for the game leaked ahead of the Ubisoft Forward event. It features pre-rendered visuals. We also learned the release date and platforms during the event.]

One of Ubisoft's big reveals for its Ubisoft Forward event has already leaked, and now the company has produced a brief teaser for Far Cry 6 with a look at its big star. The short clip shows Breaking Bad's Giancarlo Esposito smoking a cigarette, with a short message that we'll see more to come at the event. We wouldn't want to make Gustavo Fring angry, particularly if he has a box cutter close at hand.

The leak revealed that Esposito will appear in Far Cry 6, which is supported by this tweet coming from the official Far Cry account. Far Cry 6 will take place in a tropical paradise called Yara, ruled over by the despotic Anton Castillo and his son Diego. Esposito appears likely to be playing Castillo.

This tweet appears to acknowledge the leak with a cheeky reference, saying "Anton would not be pleased." And as those who have watched Breaking Bad or its spin-off Better Call Saul can attest, you don't want to get on Esposito's bad side. He also played a new Star Wars villain in the Disney+ series The Mandalorian.

The listing also revealed that Far Cry 6 will appear on both current and next-gen consoles, and offer a free upgrade path for digital purchases from PlayStation 4 to PS5, similar to Microsoft's Smart Delivery on Xbox One to Xbox Series X. According to the leaked store listing, it's scheduled for release on February 18, 2021. That would likely be a few months after the next-generation consoles arrive.

The Ubisoft Forward stream will take place tomorrow, July 12. We expect to see more from Far Cry 6 there, as well as other games like Watch Dogs: Legion and Hyper Scape

Great to hear that Giancarlo Esposito will play the villain. Now that I know that the setting is nothing much new(tropical setting again!) I will skip it. I was hoping for something akin to Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon or Far Cry instincts featuring supernatural or sci-fi elements.

Honestly really excited for it. I remember playing Far Cry 3 for the first time, I was absolutely hooked, loved it. The world, the characters, the story and the gameplay. It was the perfect blend.

Far Cry 4 didn't ever really get me. It was still a decent game, but I didn't feel like I was lost inside the world like FC3 and I hated the characters aside from Pagan Min.

Far Cry 5 I really liked. People gave the game hate and I honestly don't know why. I thought it was a big improvement over 4 and the gameplay and story was a lot of fun. I still play it occasionally.

Dang it GameSpot, the stream is in less than an hour and you spoiled the surprise with your notification. Think before you push those things out.

Wow! They're at number 6 already. Seems so many years ago since I bought Far Cry 3. That was the last Far Cry game that I bought though.

This leak -- and Giancarlo himsel prompting speculation with his pre-leak comments about being in a major game -- just make me appreciate even more how CD Projekt Red was able to keep Keanu Reeves' involvement with Cyberpunk secret.

@kgsg-19-2: I couldn't stand FC 2 and 3, but 5 was pretty decent. The ending is kind of like "WTF is happening?!" but it was fun. So far they all pretty much follow a formula of run around and capture bad guys' bases to defeat the bad guy. Hopefully they will change things up.

@Wraith3: Thanks for the review. I enjoyed 4 myself. I kind of like capturing camps and the radio towers but I'm sure after 5 they're gonna get a bit repetitive. I think I'm gonna play tlou2 and then 5.

@kgsg-19-2: I didn't like FC5 that much. It felt like the devs didn't trust their missions or traversal around the world to be interesting enough, so they were constantly trying to rain chaos on the player. To me all those cult members turning up out of nowhere was mostly an annoying distraction.

I really hope FC6 changes the formula up a bit.

@bbq_R0ADK1LL: I actually liked the absolute chaos going on in FC5 as I would see some crazy stuff going on...what I didn't like was the mandatory kidnappings if you raised too much hell and got the meter past a certain point. That I could've done without.

@Theinfmustroll: It's possible this game takes place before FC5, and it would have to if the Far Cry games take place in the same universe.

@thelostscribe: Oh, yeah...totally forgot he was in FC3 as well. Looks like we've connected everything from 3 to New Dawn, then. I guess 6 will fit as well, but it probably has to take place before whenever 5 does for, well, obvious reasons.

@UrbanMessiah: While I didn't care for the ending of FC5, seeing the nukes drop was pretty cool.

I suppose any other game would need to play out before then. I'd really like to see a Far Cry in Siberia or something, a snowy Far Cry with icy shores and dense woodlands. Maybe an emphasis in exploring deep caverns and old soviet secret bases and abandoned cities.

I'm going to be honest, all we need is a remake or better yet, remaster of FC2, just fix the dialogues, that's all.

@Pupchu: ok so I'm knit-picking really. It wasn't a game breaker by any means. I just found it ruined the flow of gameplay and rather than serving any type of purpose it was just an irritation. I'd still love to take that glider through the huge village ravine after sniping my way to the top! So much fun haha. Maybe I should try FC5, is it any good? 4 was pretty good.

And it will never be because its too simplistic and repetitive.
