Now Playing: Far Cry 5 Arcade Mode Is Creepy And Challenging - Gameplay

Far Cry 5's March 27 release date is drawing ever nearer, and now publisher Ubisoft has revealed a new mode for the upcoming game. Arcade Mode is a versatile level editor that lets you build huge, complex arenas, and it even includes assets from other Ubisoft titles.

You can use items from games such as Assassin's Creed Unity, Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag, Watch Dogs, Far Cry 4, and Far Cry Primal, as well as Far Cry 5 itself of course. At a recent preview event we got to try out a couple of levels made by Ubisoft itself: one is a weird, mind-bending mission in which you must escape some sort of prison or maze, while the other is a stealth-based find-and-kill level that contains a nod to James Bond. Arcade Mode also contains a multiplayer segment, although we weren't permitted to capture footage of that mode; you can, however, watch us play the single-player levels above.

Far Cry 5's campaign continues the series' recent trend of attempting to balance silliness with discussions of serious topics. This game's American setting made us feel like an outsider in a powerful way, but it also contains a murderous grizzly bear named Cheeseburger. For more, read the game's lead writer discuss how he attempted to balance these two aspects of the story.

For more on the upcoming open-world game, watch us test the limits of Far Cry 5's co-op multiplayer gameplay. Alternatively, check out Far Cry 5's minimum and recommended PC specs.

I'll be buying ten copies of this to support the narrative.

@lonesamurai1: Level editing and map making on consoles has been a thing for a long time, regardless of how silly you think the concept might be

@lonesamurai1: Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2 would like to have a word.

@lonesamurai1: Far Cry Instincts: Predator was a third-party multiplat in 2006 with a fairly robust level editor, and no PC version to compare it to.

It's really not that hard for a level editor to work with a controller; inferior to a PC interface, sure, but useable regardless. For example Halo's Forge modes let you hold a trigger to slow down and move/rotate an object with more precision.

@lonesamurai1: This article isn't about mods, it's about map/level editors.

@lonesamurai1: Hmm, if only there was a controller with a trackpad.

I didn't have the audio on so I may have missed it, but what was the James Bond reference? Was it just the rooftop bit like in every James Bond movie? :-P

Is level editor on consoles too? I remember it was for Far Cry 2

Avatar image for Spartan_418

@muzza93: Yes, console Far Crys have all consistently had level editors. Far Cry Instincts included one even earlier than 2

Cool feature, can't knock them for including it, though it also highlights how easy it seems to be for Ubisoft to keep endlessly reusing the same engines and same assets across multiple games (animations from Assassin's Creed reused in Watch Dogs, animations and weapon models from FC3 reused in FC4, map geometry from FC4 reused in FC Primal, etc)

You could do this in Far Cry 4 right?

my nvidia 970 gtx just crashed last week end, and thx to bitcoins miners, i had to express order some gtx1050 ti, since i have a decent 1080 pc and tv. i'd rather play with 60 fps smoothly, i have no real choice lol.

will preorder around the 25th with some ubisoft club discount at 20% off, perhaps even the version with the season pass since who want to live without the vietnam and zombies dlc?

had great fun with asscreed origins, god's time limited challenge are fun and daily rewards are fun to collect, and the coming one with mummies, zombies and giant scorpions and i wont even talk about ruling the arena, ghost recon wildlands had a very rich content and rainbow six is a very satisfying tactical shooter.

Ubisoft gets a lot of crap, and not without reason, but they've been putting out some really solid work the last couple years, especially compared to the other big AAA devs/publishers. They definitely earned some of their bad rep, but they've come a long way and I think a lot of the critique is becoming outdated.

I think FC5 is almost certainly not going to meet my expectations narratively, but it looks fun as heck and presenting their mapmaker in this way is awesome.

@bobblehead875: They haven't put out anything solid. It's the same rehashed gameplay across IP's and reskins since FC3 which has now penetrated all their IP's with fluffed check box in a map style content, with completely uninspired storylines.

@Utnayan: um, have you actually PLAYED any Ubisoft games since FC3?

No, they aren't a Naughty Dog or a Rockstar. But they aren't trying to be either. Compared to the other similar companies/publishers like EA and Activision, they are the ones taking the risks with new ideas and supporting their games long term.

So, I can fill a map with 3x as many filler activities?

Can I require finding a tent to sleep, or auto-respawning checkpoint enemy mobs?

Avatar image for Utnayan

@Pyrosa: So true. You can. And now it's even better. Ubi can have players do it for them so they can concentrate on the next reskin of AC.

People always like to criticize Ubisoft (mostly because of Uplay), but all they do is deliver one fun game after another. FarCry, Assassin's Creed, Anno, Heroes of M&M, Ghost Recon, Watch Dogs, the Division.... EA can only dream of having this many solid IPs.

This going be best far cry game ever with far cry 5 with all great dlc and far cry 3 and know arcade mode.😀 . I pre order far cry 5 gold edition for 52 pounds . 😀

Avatar image for awarbrick89

@playstationzone: STOP PRE ORDERING GAMES............... Why don't people just wait till the thing is released and you know it works? Giving a developer money for something they haven't released yet is stupid..... It's not like you're gonna get a limited edition or something, it's a download.......

Also, calm down, there is no way in hell this Far Cry is going to be the best lol.... This painfully forced theme is an insult to the rest of the series.. With the exception of Blood Dragon, They gave a good effort, really, but sometimes eugh.. No wonder they gave it away for free during a promo.....

@awarbrick89: reason I got it because it’s cheap far cry 5 might be better than 4 . For far cry blood dragon like game . Just mad got gold edition cheap and plus do what I want with my money. I like all far cry games except far cry primal .
