Following the unexpected reveal of Far Cry 4 during an investors briefing last week, the first details on the game's story have been leaked by Ubisoft's online store.

A preorder page for the game recently went live on the Uplay store, accompanied by the image above and a short description of what the story is about. Ubisoft apparently didn't intend for this information to go public yet, as the page has since been amended to remove it. Luckily, a Reddit user noticed before this could happen, and a cached version of the page preserves the original text, which is as follows:

"Hidden in the majestic Himalayas lies Kyrat, a country steeped in tradition and violence. You are Ajay Ghale. Traveling to Kyrat to fulfill your mother’s dying wish, you find yourself caught up in a civil war to overthrow the oppressive regime of dictator Pagan Min.

"Explore and navigate this vast open world, where danger and unpredictability lurk around every corner. Here, every decision counts, and every second is a story. Welcome to Kyrat."

Prior to this, all we knew about the game's story was that it takes place in a location called Kyrat that is ruled by a "despotic self-appointed king"--possibly the blonde, purple-suit-wearing guy on the game's cover.

Little else is known about Far Cry 4 at this point, save for the fact that it will have a more significant multiplayer component than Far Cry 3. More details are expected during Ubisoft's E3 press conference, which is scheduled to take place on Monday, June 9, at 3 p.m. Pacific.

Far Cry 4 is set to be released on November 18 for the Xbox 360, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, and PC.

<< LINK REMOVED >> Not sure if you already know this but reports have it that the Assassin's Creed 3 director is taking the role of creative director in this game!

Far Cry 2 was not my cup of tea. Hope this game doesn't turn out to be like that. My excitement meter is down by two notches to 6 after hearing about the civil war. Also don't make the character sick with frostbite or hypothermia like in FC 2...lol

<< LINK REMOVED >> have you played FC3? If not, try it out. It's an awesome game!

I hope they have another really retarded end battle with quick time events so I feel like I wasted days of my life playing for nothing.

Every decision is important? That tag is usually reserved for RPGs.

It is an incredibly convenient set-up though - ever since Rambo.

I doubt that the protagonist would be an honorable half-breed who is fighting against a clandestine group of men with dastardly means of achieving an otherwise noble vision of the future.

its funny cos there is no way it will be out in november, we'll get to october and they'll do what they always do which is realise theyve barely started the game and they'll put it back. Therefore I can say with high confidence that its actual release date will be march april or may 2015

<< LINK REMOVED >> I was part of a ubisoft playtest last summer in which we played FarCry 4. This game has been in development for quite some time. I certainly hope they can deliver by November.

<< LINK REMOVED >> Exactly, that short of a announcement to release is really weird for ubisoft, we can expect a delay. I mean, its ubisoft,

More like accidentally "leaked" on purpose. Anyway, I need more details before deciding whether or not to buy it. My biggest fear is that it that the final cut-scene is a naked purple suit dude sitting on me.

I preferred FC2 over FC3 because I absolutely adore the African setting. FC4 needs to be really special to interest me.

<< LINK REMOVED >> Each game definitely excelled in different aspects. I'd really like to see a game that combines the strengths of each.

<< LINK REMOVED >> I preferred the setting in FC2 as well, it made engagements with the enemy more realistic. (it was easy to lose sight of them)

Good job we shouldn't judge a book by its cover, because that particular cover is awful......

think the main villain on the cover has a lot of ("crazy") potential....

<< LINK REMOVED >> Far Cry 3 was the polar opposite of FC2. It was actually fun and interesting. I got Far Cry 2 for Christmas, played it for two days, hated it, and traded it in.

And I LOVED Far Cry1 on pc, and Far Cry Instincts on the XBox1.

<< LINK REMOVED >> I too went through FC2, it was redundant. FC3 is a vast improvement. Matter of fact, any future players getting into it, skip 1 and 2, start the series with Far Cry 3 and go from there.

Avatar image for vlainstrike

@Gary_Stanton Far Cry 3 was definitely better overall, mostly due to the engaging outposts and superior story & characters, but FC2 still had its charms. FC2 had a better day/night cycle and the weather patterns were exceptional, whereas night in FC3 lasts about 2 min, and storms are as short as they are scarce.

I found some aspects of FC2 to be more immersive. The jungle design, for instance, was more realistic, even though it lacked FC3's amazing diversity of wildlife. The HUD in FC3 was also a HUGE distraction - way too busy. I couldn't stand to play FC3 until I downloaded a mod to remove all the clutter. I'm sure some people like all that crap, but I wish they had made most of the HUD elements optional.

The biggest problems with FC2 were the garbage story, forgettable characters, and the outposts that respawn 2 seconds after you leave.

If we could get a game that combines the best of both games it would end up as the most amazing shooter ever.

Delayed to 2015 because they will forget to shove in the unnecessary multiplayer component.
