As part of Ubisoft's earnings report today for the year ended March 31, the French publisher officially confirmed Far Cry 4, the next entry in the action series. It's not much of a surprise, as Ubisoft told GameSpot last year at E3 2013 that a follow-up to Far Cry 3 was a sure-thing based on the sales of that game.

"The year's performance will be led by five games--Assassin’s Creed Unity, Far Cry 4, Just Dance, The Crew, and Watch Dogs," Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot said in a statement. "Watch Dogs' pre-orders are at record levels and it is perfectly positioned to become the industry’s most successful new IP in history."

Far Cry 4 is coming to Xbox 360, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, and PC on November 18. Today's confirmation of Far Cry 4 comes after a flurry of leaks. Here's how Ubisoft sets up the story for Far Cry 4:

"In Far Cry 4, players find themselves in Kyrat, a breathtaking, perilous and wild region of the Himalayas struggling under the regime of a despotic self-appointed king. Using a vast array of weapons, vehicles, and animals, players will write their own story across an exotic open-world landscape."

"Following the success of Far Cry 3, we wanted to take the franchise to the next level and create a game that will surprise players and exceed fans' expectations," executive producer Dan Hay said in a statement. "Given the unique setting, we feel Far Cry 4 will stand out as a top first-person shooter and we're eager to reveal more about the game in the coming months."

If you preorder Far Cry 4, you'll receive a limited edition version of the game that includes Hurk's Redemption, a three-part single-player mission pack featuring the character Hurk from Far Cry 3. You'll also receive Hurk's main weapon, the harpoon gun called The Impaler, if you preorder.

More information about Far Cry 4 will be shared during Ubisoft's E3 2014 briefing next month, to be held Monday June 9 at 3 p.m. PDT.

Haven't even gotten around to playing FC3 yet. Still on the shelf unwrapped.

<< LINK REMOVED >> "Have I ever told you the definition of insanity?" Insanity is having that GAME OF THE YEAR sitting on a shelf unwrapped. Far Cry 3 was one of the most entertaining games I have played in recent years. The multiplayer was excellent too. Burning down the marijuana fields and hearing reggae music start to play while getting high if you stood to close to the flame was CLASSIC!

<< LINK REMOVED >><< LINK REMOVED >> Had heaps of fun with the hunting/crafting system. I was bummed when i had nothing else to craft lol

@mi_hung_lo @Dordledum 2012....Mass Effect 3, Borderlands 2, Far Cry 3, XCOM Enemy Unknown...I could swap BL2 with FC3....that was the cream of the crop for me....but yeah, not opening and playing that game does verge on insanity.

Meh, i wouldn't say it was GOTY material. It was ok, but like most Ubisoft games, they tend to underdevelop their ideas.

Jersey-shore, rich kid being thrown into a survival situation? Cool!
Can use an LMG, reload it, and fire with precision accuracy, right off the bat. Lame.

@Alucard1475 you should see some of the crazy mexican drug cartel selfies, they look like trannies but are hardcore assassins. Matter of fact, they have this guys look, same expression on their faces. Ive seen Cheney have this expression on his face to. Criminals. Wouldnt surprise me if the Knights templar assassins are the inspiration for this guys expression on his face, its almost identical.

Mickey Rourke, is that you?

i adored FC2 and FC3 and i cant wait.... it just saddens me that this is another cross-gen game that won't look as great as it could have if it was next gen + PC only....

Avatar image for andmcq

Let's see how bad the characters are this time. Can't wait to kill bad dudes with my hipster mates, right on, yo!

Farcry 3 was amazing (an so was the sci-fi spinoff), and so looking forward to this one!!

Oh, and seeing its set in the Himalayas do we get to climb Everest as an achievement?!!!

Avatar image for Daelusca

@Bond_Villain FC3 was an amazing game, but I have to disagree on Blood Dragon...that was, hands-down, the worst DLC I have ever seen (and that includes Hearthfire!)...I can't imagine a worse concept "DLC"...it had NOTHING to do with the game.

I hope for it to set in Nepal side.

Avatar image for shingui5

It says it is set in a place called 'Kyrat'. A quick google search brings me up nothing, so i'm assuming its a fictional region of the mountain range.

Avatar image for KilltheFANBOYS

<< LINK REMOVED >><< LINK REMOVED >>I know it's fictional. But I hope to have more vibe for Kryat from there.

"Watch Dogs' pre-orders are at record levels and it is perfectly positioned to become the industry’s most successful new IP in history."

Anyone think that maybe the Origin India store 59% off deal that got exploited was on purpose? Like they wanted to boost preorders worldwide but didn't want to make it seem obvious, so they intentionally put out a crazy great deal on a India shop knowing everyone would use it? No doubt that probably got them thousands of more preorders, and with that they could point to it hitting record pre-ordering levels.

Avatar image for paulszki

@liquidbutter seems to insignificant, if your're saying "thousands" since we're probably talking about a couple of million units being pre-ordered. Also, they do want to make a profit of these titles and cutting the price by almost 60% just to get to be able to claim a big number, seems unlikely to me.
Why would they have to hide this even? It's not like anyone would be mad if they just announced it officially.

Avatar image for topeira

<< LINK REMOVED >> interesting thought.... which makes me wonder why more publishers arent incentivizing pre-orders with a lower price? if this 59% off deal was profitable than i can only assume letting gamers pre-order a game for 30% off (even with no additional content) could be a win-win situation, so why not?

I'm disappointed that it's coming to PS3 and Xbox 360 because surely that will mean having to make some design compromises to work on 8 year old hardware. I have seen some scenes in next-gen only titles like Killzone Shadowfall and Infamous Second Son that were truly breathtaking. These multi-platform games are more like "last gen plus" than fully "next gen". The developers have to make sure it works on the lowest common denominator, but PS3 and 360 are where the install base is so it's understandable.

<< LINK REMOVED >> It's funny that console gamers are haunted by the stench of rotting consoles. That so-called next gen console may be getting stale content. For years PC gamers suffered from the negative impact of consoles and now ironically even console gamers fear those rotting consoles will be holding back their slightly next-gen machines.

Avatar image for topeira

<< LINK REMOVED >><< LINK REMOVED >> for years??? we STILL DO!! even the next gen games will, to a much smaller degree, limit our PC capabilities. but in general i feel the same, btw. if this game wouldnt come out on last-gen it could have been better. i hope next year will drop the last-gen support so new-gen and PC will get the step up we wish for.

Avatar image for deactivated-5bab80860fac3

<< LINK REMOVED >> I guess Sony and MS will want to drop support for the older consoles to encourage people to buy the new hardware. 3rd party developers may not be so quick to follow though.

Avatar image for FretsOfDeath

<< LINK REMOVED >> I was thinking the same thing. It bothers me a little when seeing newly announced games now coming to all 5 systems. it keeps making me want to hold off on next gen consoles when the games I want to play are also coming out on the systems I already have.

Oh geez, I should have seen this coming:

Maybe this time they could depict australians as something other than psychotic sexual predators ala buck from fc3...just a thought.

Avatar image for FretsOfDeath

<< LINK REMOVED >> people would make that same statement regardless of where a character is from if depicting their home country.

Avatar image for robbiejones

<< LINK REMOVED >><< LINK REMOVED >> I'm australian and i didn't get offended!

Avatar image for metgear2000

Xbox 360? really? That means the graphics will be outdated How much longer will they cater to that archaic hardware. My cell phone has better graphics.

Avatar image for Daelusca

@metgear2000 Let's be honest, for a lot of people it makes little sense to plunk $500 (now $400) down for a console that has very few games to play and no ability to play old favorites...I get it....had the X1 from the first day, but only have 1 game for it...and that I could have gotten for the 360 (AC4)....360 is the only one hooked up at the moment.

Avatar image for FretsOfDeath

<< LINK REMOVED >> it is Ubisoft. they're getting greedy, so they want to milk as many consoles as possible.

Avatar image for djpetitte

that honestly has to be the worst box art I have ever seen in my life.
